Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Hair.
Jill, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have also been a fashion lover and considered shopping and searching out the latest trends as a hobby! I have my degree in interior design and always dreamed about opening up a home decor and clothing store, but I honestly never thought I was brave enough to take the leap and do it! I knew to have a retail store was a huge commitment and the timing to open my own shop never seemed quite right.
But when my friend approached me almost two years ago about being a women’s clothing vendor in her new concept store, I didn’t think twice and jumped on the opportunity! Cactus Bloom was born and I haven’t looked back since!! I knew this was an answer to prayer and I have enjoyed the process ever since we started. We then launched our website and went online back in January of this year, and have steadily built a presence through our social media following.
Has it been a smooth road?
As a new small business owner, I feel like the road is bumpy 99% of the time! I have spent a lot of sleepless nights in prayer over ideas and how to handle issues that come up and how to take the next best steps for growth. And it’s also an endless game of trial and error and really figuring out what works best for your clients (and consequently what doesn’t work out so well haha). I also get to develop a relationship with clients, but it usually doesn’t happen overnight. There’s a ton of competition with online boutiques and you can get fast fashion through almost any outlet … so it’s incredibly important to me that my clients know and trust me and are confident in the purchases that they are making with Cactus Bloom!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Cactus Bloom story. Tell us more about the business.
Cactus Bloom is an online women’s fashion and accessory boutique that has the goal of providing pieces that are unique, cute and (most importantly) comfortable to wear! We seek out statement pieces that no one else has and pride ourselves with quality that won’t break the bank.
We also just have a ton of fun and really try to make our clients feel amazing in the clothes we hunt down from distinct vendors all over the country!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
How people are shopping is changing so much! I think we’ve seen so much success being solely online because of how easy purchasing is right now, even through social media! You can literally tap on our IG post, click the link for an item and check out through PayPal (so it puts all your contact info in automatically) in 2 mins flat. It’s insane!!
And with big retailers making the shipping process easier then it’s also become more tangible for us small guys. I’m excited to see how technology makes shopping online even easier but I’m almost wondering if we’ll make a 180 over the next decade and crave that more personal touch with purchasing?! But that’s also why I love social media and being in front of our clients through IG stories and also LIVE events. Those options definitely bring that more personal feel and allow clients a glimpse into the business and fun side of our boutique!
