Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Jones.
Marcus, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 2011, I met a guy who was a promoter for Dallas at the Prophet Bar. After I played drums during at Jam Session hosted by RC Williams, the guy asked me if I had a band and did I want to perform that Friday night. and of course, I said yes, but didn’t have a band.
I got some musician friends together, at the time I was a student at Cedar Valley Community College. I called them for the gig that was booked at The Trophy Room. The Promoter came to me and ask me what’s the name of the band so he can introduce us. I didn’t have any idea nor did I even know how this was going to turn out. So I told him to introduce us as “THE FOUND” and he was like that’s a cool name. When the set started there were only about 10 people in the audience. Before the end of the night, it had gotten overcapacity, the lead singer didn’t even have to sing, because of the energy and sound, it was like the place was hypnotized. The Trophy Room was full to capacity and had to turn people away.
2012, John Jay Myers owner of The Free Man Cajun Cafe, reached out to a friend of mine who was a part of the Trophy Room night, Dezi (Dezman Lehman) for Saturday night gig. Dezi reaches out to me and said “THE FOUND” should do this night. From that night, we were asked to do a weekday residency Thursday and that’s the History

What do you guys do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
The Found is a collective group of musicians. Not just musicians but some great brothers who love to play and create music and opportunities for artists.
All of these brothers have played a big part in this Journey:
Dezi, Spud, Daytrion Cook, Jordan Walker, Chris Traylor, Frank Moka, Lundun “Cyfa Fix” Taylor the MC, Hype, Lead, Front Man Charlie, Matt Pickett, Cameron Green, Mike Clowes, Man Man Robinson, Matt Punkett, Rob Gaines, Steven Ketner.
The goal is to build an institution for musicians and artist no matter what age who have the gift of music but may not have had formal training may not be accepted to schools due to grades, along with life experiences and situations that may not have the opportunity to showcase their talents.
The Free Man is definitely the platform for The Found’s vision.
This is only the beginning of a movement, starting at home and having an organic throughout the world.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like Dallas because there is a rich music culture here, you can hear live music just about every night. There are so many talented people here.
