Today we’d like to introduce you to Salvador Rivas.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Salvador. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started working fairly young at the easiest place I could get a job in, I started working as a prep cook at a Mexican food restaurant and made my way up the ladder through the kitchen and then started as a busser in the front of the house until becoming the general manager. at the ripe age of 24, I was in charge of about 40 employees and a very successful operation. I have to say that I am a strong believer that you have to enjoy every day of your life and don’t lose sight of what is most important in life. Having said that, one day that my son had a soccer game that I could not attend because of work and realized how many games I had missed and most likely continue to do so because of the nature of the restaurant industry, I decided to call the owner of the restaurant and resign. I had no job offers on the table or any plans for what was next. I guess my plan was to spend as much time as possible with my kids in the next few weeks after becoming unemployed and survive until depleting our savings account. However, my brother called one day and said: “Come on Sal, you can not just do nothing while your kids are at school, come help me out at work until you decide what to do”. So, I did.
The reason why am I telling you this story is because of this offer that I crossed paths with the person responsible for me to start in the broadcasting business. When He saw me, the first thing that came out of his mouth were “what are you doing here? You have to come to work with me” and so I did. I became an Account Executive for a local TV station, learned the basics and after a while learning the ropes, I was recruited by competition. It is here that I learned almost everything I know about broadcasting today. including media placement and buying, selling and everything in between until getting to management. I had two great mentors. Joyce and Brent.
Then, again, in 2016, for the second time in my life, I resigned and left a great career to pursue an adventure with my family. This adventure lasted about six months traveling in Western Europe getting to know my kids, meet my wife again and learning what the world has to offer. and then it was time to go back to reality. So, we moved to the great DFW metroplex and started working for a major company here in Dallas as an account executive and it is here where I found out after visiting with prospective clients that there was a need not being fulfilled, so that’s why DuoS global was created. There are a lot of business owners that want to take the next step on the success ladder and just need a helping hand, letting the world know about their product or service
Has it been a smooth road?
My career has not been a smooth road, by all means, I was not born with a silver spoon and a lot of times on my life I was happy just to have something to fill the spoon with.
As a Hispanic, I not only had to overcome the challenge that I have an “accent” on my speech, but also the fact that there were times that I had to work twice as hard to prove to people that I belonged there in corporate America where at times I was the youngest and English being my second language. Most of the career advancements that I have had are because of my performance on the job. It is the way that I was thought to do. Talk the talk and walk the walk. Most of the time I had to supervise people older than me to which I had to prove to them by showing them my work, and also the usual co-workers that believed that they were supposed to be in my place.
There is a saying: “How can I soar with the eagles when I am surrounded by turkeys?” so my plan has always been to surround myself with people that are better and smarter than me. I have been very fortunate to have found extraordinary people along the way that truly lead by example and are good at what they do. As an individual, I always try to mirror their strengths and develop my own style.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Duos Global and Creative Mind Lab story. Tell us more about the business.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Our industry changes almost on a daily basis. I always said that we have to be students of the industry because If you don’t you will be left behind. Who would have thought that Google search was going to become the new yellow pages?
Many people in this industry always said that in marketing you have to Lead, follow or get out of the way.
I say: Learn, adapt, lead and repeat.
The world changes everyday and you have to embrace change.
