Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Reeves.
Erik, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started drawing when I was very young and continued from kindergarten throughout high school.
On a leap of faith, I enrolled myself in the Art Institute of Dallas where I met so many other talented artists a lot of them I am still friends with to this day.
I learned a lot from my friends and through the many years of meeting other artists I was introduced to the wonderful world of being a professional artist.
After so many years of hard work and perseverance, I decided to take all of my years of experience from working in comics, video games and advertising and build a reputable self-brand.
Vear Graphics (Visual Entertainment and Advertising Resources) is my self-publishing company.
I have been working professionally as an artist for 20 years by building strong relationships with clients by living by a simple principle…

I recall my Dad telling me a story of when he went to pay for his cell phone bill and was told that he had to wait because the store owner was dealing with a bigger customer and how this made him feel and why he would no longer use the cell phone companies’ services.
Has it been a smooth road?
Learning how to not live from check to check was very challenging.
Before becoming a successful full-time artist, I worked numerous warehouse jobs, I was a cook at several popular restaurants and worked as a supervisor for several retail stores so I like many people became very accustomed to getting paid every two weeks and developed the spending habits of just making it to the next payday!
Understanding the unpredictability of working freelance was scary and took some time to get used to but one day I realized…

This still motivates me to this day to always keep it moving!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Vear Graphics story. Tell us more about it.
As a freelance artist, I provide clients with original artwork for their business whether it’s an original logo design, t-shirt design, website design, character designs, full comic book illustrations, concept art for video games and storyboards for film.
I am currently developing my skills at 2D and 3D animation.
I am most proud of producing my creator-owned comics such as Peacekeeper, Throwd and my very popular Hoodratz In Space comic series.
What sets me apart from others is my unwavering devotion to bring something fun, fresh and new to the art world by combining my love for pop-culture and including my real-life experiences in my art.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Thanks to all the advancements of technology, I believe the future is unlimited for an artist that is not afraid to push the boundaries of the art that exist in the world today.
Businesses are always looking for an edge over their competitors and the need to keep up with the fast-paced world of social media.
I believe new avenues for creative people are going to continue to become available.
