Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Waslien.
Brianna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was a young girl, I would always have fun dressing up my little sister and having her pose for me to take photographs of her. I always loved being in front and behind the camera. As a teenager, I had a camera on hand for all events with my friends and would be the memory keeper. I have always loved taking photographs and capturing memories to look back on! During my senior year of high school, I decided to take 2 photography classes and a digital imaging course from the same teacher and fell even deeper in love with photography. I loved using the darkroom to create my masterpieces and would have my friends pose for me at different locations in nature. I grew up in Oregon and loved being in nature and capturing the little moments in time. My photography instructor decided to gift me a dark room projector for graduation! Since high school graduation in 2010, I have continued to take pictures of just about everything! I have a passion for holding onto memories and love to share them with others!
Fast forward to a couple of years ago; my good friend and I decided to start taking pictures of each other in locations around Dallas. She got pregnant and we thought… why not do some Maternity Milk Bath Photos? One thing led to another and I started finding a passion for capturing the special moments for various friends and family and now complete strangers! My love for snapping the perfect image has grown into a business that I love. I started Lonestar Hippie Photography to continue to grow in my passion and to be able to do what I love, which is Photography! I have grown from Maternity to Family, to Life Style, and dabbled in Event Photography, as well as any creative ideas that I or anyone else brings to me! I am an open book to ideas and love to give my clients their dream session!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I do not think any journey is a smooth ride. Everyone has their ups and downs and I am no different. My biggest obstacle I would have to say has probably been myself. I am my own worst enemy and I tend to be super hard on myself. My advice to others would be to have faith in yourself and continue to take baby steps to get to where you want to go! Life is a roller coaster and you never know what can cause a roadblock! Be patient with yourself and your growth, as long as you are continuing forward you will be able to look back and see how far you have grown! I love reflecting on how much has changed over the years; and how much I have learned by simply putting myself outside of my comfort zone.
Please tell us about Lonestar Hippie Photography.
I am the Owner and Photographer for Lonestar Hippie Photography! I specialize in Maternity and Family Photography, as well as dabbling in Event, Wedding, Newborn, and any creative session someone throws my way! I would say I am most proud of my deep passion for photography and making people smile. I love to customize each session to be about the Family. I work with them from day one until the end result and try to make sure that all their questions are answered. Every client has my phone number and knows that they can contact me about any and everything! I strive to make each session one that they will cherish for the rest of their lives! I like to create a flowery and outdoor vibe to my photo sessions.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts or other resources that you’ve benefited from using?
I would say that Photoshop has become one of my best friends. Between that and my Canon Rebel. I do love to read, but I stick to mostly Thriller Novels. I also really love to write when I can find time! I do find inspiration from the internet for some of my sessions, however, I like to change things up and make them my own. I tend to be a figure it out myself type of person and cannot say that I have any specific apps, books, podcasts, blogs or resources that I follow in general.
