Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Cordova.
Oscar, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I created Avodroc about eight years ago when I got pretty sick and couldn’t hold a job so I had to live with my parents. I was at a very low time in life with depression in a lot of other things. I was blessed enough to stay at my parent’s house while I was sick and never really left that room. I grew up in for about eight months, I rather sleep than do anything. I was in a weird mindset at the time. So, I started playing around on YouTube about that time since I wasn’t working and taught myself how to unlock iPhones via software. At that time, craigslist was just starting out and I would post ads on there to unlock people’s phones with software and around that time, 2006, iPhones could be unlocked to be used on other cellular companies like T-mobile, etc. It was a big deal back then to unlock them. So, I did that for about 1-2 years at the parent’s house and then, I created a cellphone repair company and opened my first store and Billy the Kid from 106.1 became my brand ambassador and I began to customize iPhones for celebrities and athletes all around the U.S. I had that company for about seven years and then, I wanted to transition into something else so I created this printing company out of my apartment two years ago, just slanging shirts out of my one-bedroom apt and building up my clientele. I know how a shop in Richardson and we are booming out of control, we have been blessed to print for the Dallas Cowboys, Red Bull and Dicks Sporting Goods to name a few companies.
Sorry for the long story but that gives you somewhat of an idea of where I started my entrepreneur journey and how I got to where I’m at now. Also, the main reason I left the cellphone customization and repair business behind is because it was a company that I couldn’t scale like I can this one and it was my first business, of course, I learned a lot of mistakes along the way so I am way more prepared for this business and growing it.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Lots of lessons learned in the business for sure from picking the right CPA to handle your taxes to trying to hire the right people. All of that you learn from bad experiences.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Avodroc Custom Printing – what should we know?
Avodroc Custom Printing is a wholesale printing company.
We specialize in embroidery, direct to garment printing, screen printing.
What sets us apart from other companies is our quality of work, customer service and turn around time. We are picky about quality and what we produce along with pleasing the customer. I am most proud of our embroidery department since it is our strongest part of the business. Everyone loves our work because of how sharp it looks.
But to go back to what we do, we basically print wholesale for companies big and small and even individual clothing brands at a fair rate so they are able to resale the item for a profit.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I think everyone needs a solid team to be successful for sure. A person who has had a big role in helping me grow through marketing and knowing a lot of people and just flat out knowing how to sale is Art Luna my right-hand man who helps me with whatever the company needs. He is also one of our graphic designers so he is a jack of many trades. He has been in sales for over 15 years and has built a lot of relationships over the years, so it was a smooth transition when we linked up and started working together. I also have my family and friends who always help me to this day and support all the goals I have in mind for Avodroc.
