Life and Work with Ja’Mecha Dodd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ja’Mecha Dodd.

Ja’Mecha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Oh, where do I start? I started my business two years ago after going through a tough time that resulted in me going to therapy. One of the things that we are taught is how to utilize coping mechanisms when our normal ones have failed and figure out what makes me happy. I took a bit to remember that I love to work with my hands.

I started learning Reiki, Japanese hand-healing treatment, as a way to heal myself and to eventually heal others. It started to make a noticeable difference within myself and I loved every bit of and the newfound family. This is when I started Willow Peak Wellness, LLC.

It wasn’t until I was speaking with my mother that I wondered what else I could do to help with my anxiety. We were sitting around talking and I started searching on how hard it would be to make sugar scrubs, soap, etc. That night I went to Micheal’s and bought my first set of soap making supplies. The birthplace of, The Sh*tty Artisan, a veteran-owned business that strives to help individuals feel food in their skin.

Since then, I have extended my business for hand soap to over thirty products and four different healing modalities.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? Oh, no, no in the least bit. There have been days that I have cried and wanted to quit. Some days my anxiety was so high that I couldn’t get out of bed with fear that I was no longer helping and
I was a hindrance and a fluke in the healing/body care industry.

If it wasn’t for the support of friends and my family, I am telling you that I would have quit two months in and not looked back.

Starting your own business is hard, but it is so worth it. My advice is to find you a support team, Someone to listen to you when you have to rant and kick you in the butt once you’re done. Not everyone I’ve met along the way has been in my corner or had my best interest. Therefore I cherish my circle greatly.

If you currently do not have someone that you can lean on, start networking, you are bound to find a mentor or confidant.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a certified Life Coach, Reiki Master/Teacher, intuitive energy healer, intimacy coach, oracle, and a body care enthusiast. As a healer, I tend to instinctively know what someone needs when they come to me for a session. I am known for being able to provide spiritual guidance through the use of my gifts. When a person gets off of my table they’ve released past hurts, traumas, heartache and leave healed and lighter.

My clients and customers come back to me because they know that my services and products will give them what you need just when they need them. I make good sh*t, lol. I am honored to be head of a business that cares so much about those of whom I come in contact. My favorite part about a session or transaction is the smiles that grace a person faces when they’ve found exactly what they need.

What sets me apart as a healer is that I am able to reach a level of rapport with my clients in the first session that lasts way past the session. People sense a kindred spirit where they are not judged and can be open and safe in my care. This carries over to my bath and body products. All of my products are infused with healing energy. You will feel the difference in my products compare to some other just by how happy or relaxed you feel after using them.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that a lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
What’s work well for me, is just getting out there. I am lucky enough to have a friend that was already in the healing side of thing and helped me get started. It wasn’t until a year ago that I started to branch out and I have met some pretty awesome people. Most of my events and clients have come word of mouth. So, I encourage you to get out there and talk to people. You never know where your next opportunity may come from.
