Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Courtney-Torres.
Alexis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in a place where many things that I value greatly as an adult were virtually non-existent. Affection, Support, Respect, Autonomy, the list goes on and on. As I’ve explored life and who I am as a person, I’ve been many places and met many people both wonderful and some not so much but along the way, I’ve discovered passions in which I will carry throughout my life. I’d like to think I’m an interesting person, and If I had to describe some attributes I’ve held onto since a young age, I’d say that I’ve always been headstrong, bold, inquisitive, daring and unafraid to push the envelope in all aspects of my life. I’m a natural born knowledge-seeker, risk-taker, and very passionate towards what I take interest in. I’m so very lucky that I have been able to turn my interests and passion into a career that has no limits and allows me freedom in so many ways. I began working as a Professional Nanny almost five years ago and quickly fell into working in high network, fully staffed homes in the Dallas area. I’ve worked with a broad range and families with different backgrounds, philosophies, and lifestyles. Most of my clients have been high-powered entrepreneurs or families with stay at home moms and multiple children very close in age. Through these various experiences I’ve developed a passion for research, learning, and understanding of how tiny brains work and have sought out the skills to make the lives easier for the families I work with and ensure that I’m doing my part to create healthy family dynamics, support positive parental & infant mental health and above all raise confident families who love and enjoy one another. My career is a huge part of my life, I usually end up working 100+ hours per week between 50-80+ hours spent physically in my clients’ homes and all the backend work that goes into having a business, networking, and research I keep a pretty full schedule. Oddly enough, my current business endeavors also have allowed me to live a life a fluidity. I plan out my schedule 6-9 months in advance, I have the opportunity and availability to travel at my own leisure and I get to carefully choose who I work for and in-turn I have been blessed with the most amazing clients who truly appreciate what I do for their families and even though I work insane hours, I never dread going to work.
Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
What a big question… Is anything in life a smooth road? I’d say yes and no.
I’m a very driven person, so if my mind is on something and I’m passionate about accomplishing something, then getting there has come relatively easy so far because I’m willing to put in the work. Was it easy working 130 hours a week and only being home for MAYBE 4 hours per day for an entire year? Absolutely not, but I did it and I don’t regret a second of it. Most of my struggles have been internal and based on decisions I’ve had to make. I made the choice to put off finishing my degree so I could dedicate myself to building and launching a business and so far that has really paid off. I would struggle much more if I didn’t have the support of my wonderful husband who picks up way more slack than anyone should ever be expected to.
Please tell us about Harmony Baby Concierge.
I’m currently in the process of transitioning to working solely with my new company and transitioning my former business into more of a personal brand. I am a Co-Owner of Harmony Baby Concierge, an exclusive concierge service for families with infant aged 0-14 months. We are a collective of Newborn Care Specialists providing support to expecting parents and families with newborns & infants. Harmony BC provides overnight & 24/7 care so new parents can get much-needed rest, while also delivering parent education and resources to set families up for success in all aspects.
As a Newborn Care Specialist, I specialize in Respectful Care philosophies & Gentle Sleep Conditioning. I teach realistic ways of parenting that contribute to and support a healthy dynamic for the entire family. I help my clients accomplish their postpartum goals while catering to and fostering infant & parental mental health, secure attachment, proper nutrition, and healthy sleep for the whole family.
As a company, we so proud to be able to offer full-spectrum support to the families we serve. As our society changes, we aren’t surrounded by our families like we were 40 years ago, but these new parents need a village.
We are their village.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Looking back, there isn’t a single thing I’d change as everything has been an opportunity for growth.
