Meet Rosie Luciano of New Horizon Coffee Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosie Luciano.

Rosie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started roasting my own coffee as a young adult. Roasting coffee is a learning process that took me a while to master. Every bean has its own unique flavor so doing your research and roasting them at the correct temperature is important. Having fresh coffee is the best thing you can have every morning. I’m a student at UNT in Denton where I’m majoring in Social work. In social work, you learn about a lot of heavy topics. One of the topics that stood out to me was human trafficking. I started doing my research and found out that victims of human trafficking lack resources. I wanted to help but I didn’t know how. Volunteering didn’t feel like enough for me. I wanted to do more so I gave my coffee roasting skills a purpose. I wanted to help the victims of human trafficking by donating a % of each purchase to local non-profits in Dallas.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business isn’t easy. You have to be really patient, work hard, and stay consistent. The hardest part about running a business is the competition and marketing. It’s a challenge to get your name out there when there is a coffee shop in every corner. The competition can be pretty intimidating so it’s important for me to provide good quality coffee and stay unique.

New Horizon Coffee Co. – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
New Horizon Coffee Co. is an online store. We specialize in roasting coffee from South/Central America. Their farms seem to produce the finest coffee that provides a balanced and clean mouthfeel that exhibits a slight sweetness in the flavor. We give our company a purpose by donating to local non-profits in Dallas that help victims of human trafficking. Our goal is to provide our customers with great quality coffee that serves a purpose so that each morning when they sit down to have a cup they are reminded that they are contributing to making our community a better place. The business is fairly new so we have a lot of growing to do. I’m happy to see the support we have received and I’m glad that people are becoming more aware and knowledgeable about human trafficking.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment is having people interact with me over coffee and wanting to learn more about human trafficking. It’s great when people start talking about a heavy topic and asking how they can help.
