Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Prieto.
Eddie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Both my grandfather and father were carpenters and painters growing up, I was their apprentice from a very young age. I worked with them most days after school, weekends, and summers through high school and college. When I graduated from college pursued my career in IT. Still occasionally taking on personal projects for myself and my wife.
Two years ago my parents home caught fire and both my brother and I took a sabbatical from our careers and helped them rebuild their entire home from the ground up. When the build was complete, I felt the need to combine the skills from both my trades. With the support of my wife, I left the corporate world after ten years and that was when SLD was born.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Finding skilled employees is a struggle, It’s a common misconception that painting is easy, while it is in many ways there are proper techniques to applying the paint to certain types and textures of walls. Taking the time to cover surrounding areas in order to avoid spillage, splatter, and drippage. Most people try to rush the process ending up with spots on the floor, drips on the wall and uneven coverage on their walls, I like my guys to be meticulous when they are working in a client home in order to provide the best service and results possible.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is waking up every day being my own boss and doing what I love. My criteria is having a career where I can use all my skills and creativity. Being successful to me is not defined on how much money I make. I provide a beautiful home for my family, full bellies and have the leisure time to travel, pursue personal hobbies, practice my craft and truly have the freedom to enjoy time with my loved ones.
