Today we’d like to introduce you to Yahya Mansour.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Yahya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The Mansour family has been in dentistry since 1937 so to say I grew up my whole life in dentistry is an understatement. Both my parents are dentists, my grandpa was a dentist, and I willingly followed in their footsteps. However, it wasn’t always this way, I actually entered college as a business major and it wasn’t until my junior year that I switched to predental and graduated with dual bachelors degrees in Biology and Neuroscience, I then went on to get my MS in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry before going to dental school in San Francisco. This diverse background of different subjects taught me to see things through different lenses. After graduating dental school, I was ready to go, gung ho with ambition and excitement to work with my parents and learn from my dad, Dr Malek Mansour.
One of the best clinicians in the country with more Continuing Education hours than anyone else in the entire Country!! I learned a lot growing his practice as well as my skill set. My best friend, dental school classmate, and partner, Dr Saam Zarrabi was already in Texas. We talked about working together out there, but I was hesitant at first. I loved living in Orange County, I could drive 10 minutes and go surfing or scuba diving, and I could drive two hours and go skiing, it was amazing. Then on one trip visiting Saam in Texas, I fell in love. I ended up moving out to Dallas five months later, and would still come back to CA to practice every six weeks. As the Texas practice grew, we knew we were onto something, we continued to expand with our other best friend and partner Dr Raffy Kouyoumdjian. Now, we sit here 25 offices later, over 40,000 5 star google reviews, a Texas Senate Resolution praising us, and one from the House of Representatives as well. It’s been quite a journey, we have changed lives, built careers, and put many smiles on a lot of faces. The most rewarding part of the journey has been the impact we have had on the community and the stories they tell us about how their lives have changed.
Has it been a smooth road?
There’s a quote I read somewhere that says, Smooth seas make a terrible sailor or something along those lines. I wish I read that quote before I hit any rough patches in my life! Nothing is ever easy, there are ups and downs, smiles and cries, but along the way, we learn to turn crisis into opportunities and learn to grow from them. I learned a long time ago that the joy of climbing a mountain isn’t when you get to the peak. Nothing happens at the peak, it is in the climb and the grind. It’s when you break your arm and run out of water, yet find a way to survive and persevere that you learn what you’re made of and you are taught how to cope with the challenges in life. I have been through severe cash crunches, where I sacrificed my own pay for the employees, to severe illnesses where I couldn’t walk for a week. I had to sleep in my car after dental school for a few nights just to get by until I could start working, and I’ve had many close family members suffer at terrible diseases while I stood helplessly by. With everything that has happened, I still consider myself the luckiest guy alive. I get to do what I love with people I love, and the impact I can make in people’s lives is the most fulfilling feeling I have ever had. In retrospect, I have learned more about myself through my rough patches than through my successes, in fact, the challenges I have faced have always lead to my accomplishments, and for that I am forever grateful
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Rodeo Dental and Orthodontics – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am known for building confidence, and sometimes I do that through designing a smile, and sometimes I do that by building careers. At Rodeo Dental and Orthodontics, I am the Chief Dental Officer, a Co-Founder, as well as a practicing clinician. My job is to spread the word about the importance of oral health and how it relates to overall health and wellness to the community. Did you know that baseball players that smile in their cards live seven years longer than those that don’t according to a 2012 study? Did you know that there are clear links between oral health and Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart disease and other chronic diseases of aging? More school days are missed due to caries than the common cold.
In my practice, my specialty is in transformational dentistry, whether its smile design or implants, thats my domain and its what my patients can count on me for. The doctors I lead and work for, I serve to make them better clinicians, better leaders, and pillars of the community. Nothing exemplifies this more than our proudest achievement of when our doctors stepped up on a 100% pro bono basis and delivered over $250,000 in free dental care to the underserved community in South Texas by partnering with Dentists Who Care, a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that treats the underinsured.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Dallas is an amazing place to live, with a diversity I didn’t expect when I first moved here. I was actually quite surprised as to how nice people were. Growing up in LA meant if someone talked to you, they wanted something, here it’s quite the opposite. When I first moved here, I lived in an apartment with an elevator, to my surprise people that I didn’t know actually asked me how my day was and how I was doing. At first, my internal reaction was “What do you want from me?” Then I realized, they’re just being friendly!! We are so blessed to live in a city that invests in beautification like Trinity Groves, Klyde Warren Park, and our beautiful lakes and skyline. If I could improve one thing about our city, it would be the Cowboys performance this reason (Sorry, not sorry)
