Meet Kenya Monet of MoveWithMonet in Duncanville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenya Monet.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Kenya. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I danced all four years and was captain for two at Texas Southern University for the Motion of the Ocean dance line under the Ocean of Soul band. Before graduating from Texas Southern University, I started taking Heel classes for fun. I would post all my videos on Instagram. I got a lot of feedback and questions on when I would start teaching my classes. After graduating, I moved back home to Dallas, TX and I decided to put together my own class. I had only planned on doing that one class, but I ended up having 80 ladies sign up. My first class was a major success, so I continued doing them and before I knew it, I had built my brand. MoveWithMonet is what I named it because we’re constantly moving and Monet is my middle name. I have my own shirts and logo, which I’ve sold over 60. I’ve been teaching for over a year now, selling out my classes, and my brand is getting bigger by the day. I also teach private birthday classes, my ladies, and their bachelorette parties which are always fun.

Famous singer Tank has commented on my choreography via Instagram, and Famous rapper Megan Thee Stallion has retweeted my choreography via twitter. A video of me doing my choreography at one of my classes also went viral hitting 1.9 million views, 16.5 thousand retweet’s, and 89.2 thousand likes. I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. I love what I do. The ladies always share how my class allows them to be sexy but also gives them that fitness aspect where they leave feeling like they just left the gym. I’ve also added Twerk classes and the ladies love it, the best part about my classes is that it’s a judgment free zone. You may walk in, not knowing anyone, but you walk out knowing plenty. My classes are only $10. I’m located in Duncanville, TX. Right now, I’m doing classes twice a month.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For my first class, I had 80 ladies prepaid/registered and I lost the studio due to problems out of my control. I was so stressed looking for a new location, but a friend of mine who owned a studio allowed me to use hers.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
MoveWithMonet consists of me teaching Sexy Heel classes, fun twerk classes, private birthday parties consisting of ten or more ladies, and appearing at baccalaureate parties, which are always fun. I am most proud that my brand has grown so much within such a short time frame. What sets me apart is that my classes are super cheap and my ladies get a workout/dance routine all in one.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played a major role in my business. I took a chance on starting this brand, not knowing what would be the outcome, but luckily, it was a success.
