Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Evans.
Amy, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was making signs and selling them on Etsy from my home. I came across this amazing woman in Wisconsin doing parties our of her basement. I called her and she got me started in Board & Brush. It has been such a wonderful experience and for a while, my children worked with me. Now it’s my husband and I working together to make our dreams come true.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been smooth. Board & Brush was growing rapidly and we opened four studios in three years. Mansfield was our first studio, opening in April of 2016. We expanded to Fort Worth in March 2017 and Waxahachie in October 2017. We then opened the Arlington location in March 2018. We were in a tailspin for most of that time and have finally found our groove with managing and keeping everything running smoothly.
Please tell us about your business.
We are a DIY paint and sip educational class. We take you through each step of making your very own wood sign for your home. We show you how to distress, sand, stain, use a drill to put it all together, lay your stencil, and finally paint. We then show you how to sand it to make it look distressed and wax it to give it a finished look. We are BYOB and everyone has a lot of fun. Come with friends, come by yourself and make new friends. Our staff is the best and teach you with compassion and patience.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have slowed down a bit.
