Meet Trailblazer Danni Phan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danni Phan.

Danni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I consider myself late to the game. Only about three years ago, my nail tech career started when I helped my brother look after his nail salon while he was on vacation. I was fortunate enough to be able to put all my focus on doing nails, how to improve the quality, making it long lasting, and how to do designs on dip powder nails.

Along with my strive for perfection, my customer service background helped me build up my clientele. During my time at the salon, I met a lot of clients who’ve helped me and supported me through their referrals and advices. About five months ago, with the help of my husband, I made the decision to leave the salon to open up my own nail studio in The Colony area. My goal for my business is to create a relaxing and comfortable experience for my clients. A place where they can get their nails done with care and not felt rushed.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve always been a more positive person so I do consider that it has been a smooth road for me. There were momentary struggles along the way, such as dealing with co-workers, tough customer service situations, etc. Other then that, I think my biggest struggle was self-doubt. I internalize way too much and most of the time, fear of failure is the result of this over-thinking. It was very hard for me to finally make the decision to start my own business, and I am so grateful that I did.

My advice would be to know what you’re worth and to seize on your opportunity. You will never know what you can achieve if you don’t try. Also, to remind others that every day offers new challenges and new learning opportunities. Each one of these is important to capitalize on because added together they lead towards the fulfillment of our goals.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mani By Danni – what should we know?
I am a nail tech specializing in dip powder manicure and nail art. I am most proud when my clients are happy with their experience and the final product. I do my best to try to provide a clean worry-free space or a trusting environment to relieve stress, which ever suits my client best.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Instagram is a great tool for networking and it provides large communities for many industries. I have learned a lot from following other nail techs. There are many content creators out there who are genuinely wanting to help you improve your skills and business. Other than social media, I consider a lot of my clients my mentors; because they work in the same beauty industry with a broad successful experience, who generously give me advice.
