So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started Bona Blends after years of frustration with the natural hair care selections available to me and my three daughters. Though advertised as “natural” the available products contained ingredients that were harmful for me and my family’s curly hair types and overall health. Unwilling to sacrifice my health for beautiful curls, I began making my own products that were plant-based and intended for people with wavy, curly, and coily hair textures. From there, my vision was created to blend hair care that was plant-based and nontoxic so that no one had to choose between their health and amazing curls.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The journey of entrepreneurship is a challenging and to be honest I’m still trying to figure it out. It’s always scary when deciding to venture into the unknown but with faith in God and faith in myself, I won’t let fear get in my way. For any women wanting their own business…do it! You are the only thing standing in your way. You will fail at times but you will learn and learning is the best part.

Bona Blends makes handcrafted hair care for wavy, curly, and coily hair types. All of our products are made from plant-based ingredients that are nontoxic. Our products are cruelty-free, free of silicons, parabens, and sulfates.
Who do you look up to? How have they inspired you?
I am inspired by my daughters. Though young in age, my three girls push me to be more than I ever imagined I was capable of. They inspire me to be a better servant to God, a better wife, a better mother, and a better version of myself. They challenge me to always face obstacles with grace and to dream big.
