Meet Chris Dauwe of Rosewood Custom Builders in North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Dauwe.

Chris, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Rosewood Custom Builders was started in the mid-1980’s by Luc and Carol Dauwe. My brother, sister, and I grew up going to the job sites and being “buddies” with all the trade contractors that would come on Fridays to pick up their week’s wages. In my teens, I have begun working on the sites learning the various trades. My brother was destined for the medical world. My sister had her sights on journalism or corporate America (at the time). Once I graduated college (SMU), I went to work for a competitor and learned the management role. Once proficient, I came to work for the family company, and I have been here ever since. Since my joining the company in 2007, our team has more than tripled our business volume, and our following has gone worldwide for design/architecture aesthetic. We have a great passion for our business. Taking the time and devoting attention to make each detail perfect is what got us here today.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not long after I started with Rosewood, the 2008 recession hit. At first, it seemed like a huge bummer, but looking back, the slow times gave us plenty of time to reevaluate our designs and business processes. We knew it was only a matter of time before the recovery happened, and we wanted to be prepared.

Please tell us about your work.
My main role in Rosewood (co-owner) is sales and plan design. We have put together an amazing team of job site superintendents and designers that execute the plan that is put in place. Our attention to current trends and staying at the forefront of design is what sets us apart. I feel we are viewed as a trend setter in our niche market. Oh, and we ALWAYS answer our phones (for some reason, that’s a big differentiator).

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
