Today we’d like to introduce you to Geri Blanchard.
Geri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Being a Corporate RSO/Environmental, Health and Safety Manager for a NORM Disposal and Decontamination company, I became recognizable as an industry expert and a key technical resource within the NORM/TENORM industry. By heading-up multiple industry organizations, presenting at conferences and participating in special interest groups, I was nick-named the “NORM Lady”. In 2009, I started NORM SOLUTIONS as a training and consulting business catering to the oil and gas industry.
This was a suitable fit since I have been an entrepreneur since age 16 (when I started an online movie poster business), and if I was going to work this hard, I might as well do it for myself!
Has it been a smooth road?
Transitioning to an oil and gas training and consulting business was difficult in the beginning, as any new startup business will be, but word of mouth pushed the business to prevail. The business flourished, and in 2014, we opened an office in Arlington, TX.
When the price of oil flew in 2015, we unfortunately closed the office, and refocused our efforts. Since then, we have streamlined our operations and now the business is successful once again.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Norm Solutions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The NORM/TENORM industry is a fish-bowl, specialty niche of the oil and gas industry.
Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material/Technologically Enhanced NORM is produced from oil and gas reservoirs with produced fluids and water, and is found in all sectors of the oil and gas and petrochemical industries. This material must be managed according to applicable state regulations. I, Geri Blanchard, writes more NORM/TENORM decontamination license applications than any other consultant in the United States. As a premium training source for NORM/TENORM, we provide accurate and current information in courses throughout the United States and Canada. I am most proud of the NORM Lady™brand, which originates from conference attendees recognizing me but not remembering my name, so they would call me the “NORM Lady”. We branded the name and created a logo, and our complementary newsletter is named “NORM Lady™ News!”. Our notoriety, reputation, and knowledge sets us apart from any other firm.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I moved to the DFW area in 2011, and I fell in love with Fort Worth, TX. The stockyards and downtown was a large city with a little town feel. Friendly people surrounded every event, and the consideration for others was astounding. My least favorite part of DFW is definitely traffic. Road construction is abundant, so delays are on almost every major interstate.
