Today we’d like to introduce you to Calimar White.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Calimar. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Well, I’m originally from St.Petersburg, Florida and I moved to Dallas, TX August 17, 2012. When I first moved here I was pursuing a career in music but then I got in a toxic relationship and I needed to vent, So one day I looked at my girl and said “I’m finna talk about yo ass” and ever since then I’ve been doing standup. My actual first time on stage performing was October 17, 2017.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was very smooth at first when I first started, I was doing shows damn near every weekend, my face was on flyers back to back then I started becoming a threat and people started taking me off their shows so I had to take my talents to the internet and start doing skits. And at first, I was against doing skits on the internet cause I felt like that was taking the easy way to make it in this comedy game but once I started feeling the hate and jealousy I had to try the internet thing and its been such a blessing, it really gives me a chance to display my creativity and my gift of making people laugh.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
The thing I’m best known for is my hit song “Fuck my Job”(Never do shit at work). and what sets me apart from these other comedians is that I’m not afraid to be myself, I’m not afraid to be ugly and I’m fearless when it comes to my material, I’m not afraid to talk about certain topics I know for a fact other comics wouldn’t talk about. and another thing that sets me apart from these other comedians is that none of my jokes or stories are not made up, all my material comes from a real place. and last but not least, my upbringing definitely sets me apart from other comics.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My mom definitely deserves credit, she’s my number one supporter and I’m her only child. She always supports whatever it is I decide to pursue. But I know she’s definitely proud of me now because it seems like my whole life I just been letting her down, from being bad in school, in and out of jail and always asking for money lol. Another person who deserves credit is my cousin Jerrell Lamb, he’s the one who made sure I got my hit song registered and copyrighted cause he knew it was going to be big and be the number one song in the world, he kind of believed in the song more than me at first. and the last person who deserves credit is my little cousin Shanequa White. I give her some credit because no matter what I post she gone always make sure she share it and that means a lot to me because I had family members that unfriended me and unfollowed me because they got tired of seeing my stuff that’s why I always tell myself when I make it big they can all kiss my ass!
