Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Caves.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Tori. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I began as a stay at home mom who needed an outlet and identity other than “mom”. I wanted to share my story and journey of postpartum fitness/running and motherhood, so I started to blog. I set out to check a marathon off of my bucket list and started training when my son was only a few months old. I would blog about my journey here and there. I found my new identity as a Mother Runner and just consistently shared my thoughts, failures, successes, and more on my social media feed as well as my blog site. It’s been almost three years since this journey began and about one full year of full- time dedicated to blogging. I have done paid partnerships with brands such as ASICS and am just so grateful for this journey and the process of being a light to other mothers out there!
Has it been a smooth road?
Motherhood is never a smooth road. It is the toughest job anyone could imagine! As a new mom, it’s tough adapting to a new identity of not only the dependence of a child but a new body with battle scars. Running was and is my outlet. It’s my identity outside just “mom,” and it allows me to push my limits, set goals, and be free from stress. It was difficult for me emotionally and mentally to get back into shape postpartum when I was always athletic and in shape my whole life. It is a humbling experience, but it is an amazing journey to become a new, beautiful version of yourself. I’m widely known as the mom who is always out on the sidewalks or trails running with the stroller. My son has accompanied me on runs since he was a baby. It’s a wonderful thing to be able to show your child what determination, gratitude, and grind looks like. It is also a struggle to push a 40 lb. kid for 15 miles or however long that days training run is! But I wouldn’t trade it for easier. The challenging things in life always mold us into better versions of ourselves.
Please tell us about your work.
I am a mother runner and blogger. I started by sharing my postpartum fitness and running journey three years ago and now blog about marathon training behind a stroller, instructions and advice on properly running with a stroller, and giving product reviews for runners and mother runners. I’m known as a mother runner. I run behind a stroller just about every day. I aim to inspire and educate fellow moms on how important running is for not only themselves but for their kids too. I completed my last marathon training cycle with 90% of my training runs behind the stroller. We even completed our longest stroller training run of 15 miles! I PR’d that marathon and owed it to all the stroller miles! We have logged thousands of stroller miles in the past three years with many more to go. I am most proud of just leaping faith to start a blog. I was very hesitant because I didn’t think people would want to hear what I had to say, but with my following steadily increasing, it proves that people do listen. I believe that my authenticity, experiences, and advice set me apart from others.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Social media and blogging will continue to grow exponentially over the next 5-10 years. With that being said, the growth will mean it’ll become saturated with other bloggers and social media influencers, which means it will be even more important to differentiate yourself from the rest. It is important to find your niche and focus on how you can capture people’s attention as they’re scrolling through their feed or explore sections. Staying up-to-date with trends, social shifts, and changes in user demands will be vital in staying successful during such large growth.
