Meet Trailblazer Lucy Haigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Haigan.

Lucy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I took my first photo back in August 2018. I started as a way to destress from school, work, and life. From that point, I continued to create with talented artists as well as my friends. I never thought it would turn into a passion I can’t live without today.

Has it been a smooth road?
Luckily for me, I did not run into obstacles from the outside world. Some things I struggled internally include not being happy with what I created, not finding people who have the time to create with me, not having the right equipment, etc. Eventually, I learned to just keep pushing and create art with whatever I have and understanding that I am a work in progress. As a female photographer, I would say I am in a better spot in comparison to female models. With the amount of predators in our industry, I worry about their safety the most. I want all women to know that it is okay to say no to someone you don’t feel 100% comfortable with, no matter their skill level or fame.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I wouldn’t say I specialize in anything because I see myself as new and still quite inexperienced as a photographer. The whole industry is so vast and there are so much more to learn about any type of photography. I love editorial work and just spontaneously create with my friends. I am much more of an on-the-spot type of girl rather than planning everything perfectly ahead of time. I try my hardest to capture my subject’s personality in photos as well as showcasing my own style with poses, colors, composition, etc.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
Men.
