Today we’d like to introduce you to Pastor Sheryl Brady.
Pastor Sheryl, before we jump into specific questions about the organization, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My husband and I were married and by the age of 20, I had three small children under the age of 2. When my twins were two weeks old and my daughter was 22 months old, my husband came home and said we were moving to start a church. To say I was shocked is a huge understatement because I was getting used to being a mom of multiples! But, we trusted the voice of God for our family and began this exciting journey we are on. After that season ended, we traveled and ministered all over the United States and we were blessed to meet and connect with Bishop T.D. Jakes who has been my spiritual father now for nearly 30 years. Early on in our relationship, we moved to West Virginia to be a part of his church, where we served as Elders. We were blessed to be one of the original 50 families who were here for the launch of the Potter’s House in 1996. After two years we moved back to the east coast and began a church called The River. It was, and still is today, a thriving ministry that we were content to lead indefinitely. After ten years of pastoring there, Bishop Jakes called us and asked if we would consider praying about and returning to Dallas to join with him as he started The Potter’s House North Campus. After much prayer, my family and I moved back to Dallas to begin the work.
The Potter’s House of North Dallas was birthed out of the vision of Bishop T. D. Jakes to help service the members of The Potter’s House of Dallas who lived in the northern part of Dallas. In April 2010, TPHND held its first service and had endeavored to make a positive impact in this community ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am not sure that anyone’s road is smooth. And we’ve had our share of rocky moments. Before finding our permanent home on Main Street in Frisco, we held services in 4 different locations. It was a challenge to connect people with the vision of our ministry while not being able to connect them to a particular building. However, we persevered and prevailed which is a testament to God and the wonderful people who call TPH North home.
