Meet Dr. Terri Howard-Hughes of Mediaforce Productions in Plano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Terri Howard-Hughes.

Dr. Howard-Hughes, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Companies, products and people all have a story to tell. A visual media specialist can bring fresh ideas and unconventional ways to tell that story. Mediaforce Productions was started in October of 1999 to provide promotional, advertising and branding stories for our clients. We pride ourselves in delivering the highest quality product for reasonable prices, which has allowed for continual growth over the years. Our goal is to make sure the client knows that their product is just as important to us as it is to them. Most of our business comes from referrals and repeat business which tells us that we are meeting and exceeding that goal.

Mediaforce Productions has produced videos for large and small companies, various products and individuals. Our clients include Cadbury Swepps, Texas Instruments, KRLD, KPGM, JC Penny, Toyota of Plano and The University of Texas at Dallas. Products we have helped to promote include the Jewel Jet, Stor-Pods, and the Tornado. Brooke Shields, Roger Staubach and Eric Williams of the Cowboys are a few of our high-profile clients.

Among the types of projects we provide are training, promotional, sales training, marketing videos, as well as TV commercials, infomercials, video production for live events, video production of live events, and video for the web. Mediaforce Production has won 37 international and national awards for video production and editing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Mediaforce Productions has been fortunate in its ability to create award winning video productions for its clients. As with any business, the economy plays a part in revenue. In the video production business, the time of year can also create challenges in getting business. When most clients are businesses, the summer months and Christmas holiday season can be slow. This is where creativity in creating need comes in. During the summer months, Mediaforce Productions markets itself to funeral homes to create memory videos and/or videotaping of the funeral. The holiday months are a great time to promote videos for corporate parties. By thinking outside of the box, Mediaforce generates revenue during the slow times of the year.

Mediaforce Productions specializes in producing interesting, unique to the client video productions. We set ourselves apart from other video production companies by having the client work with one person from the first meeting to the time the final product is delivered. This way the vision of the client is established in the initial meeting and that vision stays consistent through the entire production process. Mediaforce begins with a consultative pre-production process that helps clarify the client’s needs. We ask questions, we listen, we evaluate, then we execute, providing the client with a customized solution that creates a strong connection between their organization and their target audience. In some large production houses the client project can be passed from the creative consultant to the producer and then to the editor. When this happens, it is possible that the client’s original vision is left to the interpretation of each person that handles the project and the initial vision is lost.

Another way Mediaforce Productions sets ourselves apart from others is that we offer project pricing, where everything is included, as well as per item pricing. Even in the per item pricing all stock footage, music and compression for the web are included, meaning there is no extra charge for these items. So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I received my Ph.D. in Arts, Technology and Emerging Communications from the University of Texas at Dallas in May of 2017. My dissertation topic was immersive technologies in head mounted displays (HMDs) and cinema. I am exploring using virtual, augmented and mixed realities (VR, AR, MR) for some of Media force’s clients. The business application for these technologies can be very useful.

Many industries are incorporating HMDs in fields such as science, architecture, engineering and medicine. The use of AR, MR or VR in industry can save time and money by examining projects before they are started to identify obstacles that may not be anticipated and find solutions. Scientists in many fields can use HMDs to test hypotheses rather than in actuality. Architects can walk through their designs before ever putting pencil to paper. Surgeons and doctors can use AR, MR or VR to teach students in an immersive environment, as if they are in an actual operating theater. Some geologists use customized VR programs that take data and create 3D images of underground formations and earthquake faults. Within the VR program, they can zoom in, rotate, and slice through the images to better understand what is happening below the earth’s surface.

Mediaforce Productions continues to research new technology that can be used to benefit their client’s needs while remaining within their budget. We want our clients to have the option of incorporating the creative and practical use of new technologies as they are developed.
