Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Grant.
Troy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was 14 years old, I lost my mother in a car accident. When all of the insane stuff like funeral planning, crying, and things of that nature were going on, I snuck away and listened to some music, I’d be lying if I said I knew what song was playing all those years ago, but I remember what I felt. I escaped all of that, every piece of me was drowned in the music. I then saw that my purpose as a singer who had run away from that my whole life was. To make an escape for others. I then went on to find every show I could playing all over the Dallas area, Bishop Arts, Six Flags, Frisco, any and everything. I’ve met countless people and touched hearts that without this gift, I would have never been blessed enough to reach.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Its been really hard honestly, I have had countless missteps, I’ve worked with company after company, botched a few chances that could have had me “make it” and have put all my chips in on things that ended up not working out. I’ve been overlooked more times than I can count and have been told to quit quite a few times. But, I’m all the better for it, its times like those that help me know that I’m built for this, cause I’ve kept going regardless of all of it.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I make music for people who have got through things and people who want to have fun, its a wide spectrum. My shows are always guaranteed to give you a good time!! I use a Boss 300 Loop pedal so essentially I make an entire song from scratch and loop it live for the audience. It’s a unique experience that I tell people to experience at least once!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am reinventing my sound but also staying true to who I am, being more raw and vulnerable and I am honestly having a blast doing it. I am also making my show integrated with a live band, still keeping the loop pedal but I am definitely enjoying where the sound is going. A lot of the stuff I’m working on is too early in the works to say JUST yet, but its life-changing big stuff. I am very excited honestly.
