Meet Sheila Lemley of Crystal Moon in Texarkana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheila Lemley.

Sheila, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey began as a young girl when we would go up to Pikes Peak and we would come back at the end of the day with massive amounts of pyrite. We would go in the shops and see all the turquoise and agates. I remember my first geode. I was completely astounded at the beauty hidden away inside such an unsuspecting rock. Very good lesson in “never judge a book by its cover!” I’ve been collecting rocks, crystals and gemstones ever since.

About a year ago, I began a new spiritual journey and I also started making jewelry. We didn’t have any local shops, so my husband would take me on trips out of town so I could buy the things I needed. We sat down one night and discussed opening a shop of our own. We thought if we got 150-200 followers on Facebook we’d be happy. We’ve ended up with over ten times that amount!

Has it been a smooth road?
Unfortunately, at first it was not a smooth road. Largely the struggles were due to misunderstandings, misconceptions and lack of knowledge. People fear what they don’t understand. As humans, it’s far easier for us to judge others, on all levels of the spectrum, no matter what it’s in regards to than it is to just stop and take the time to gain some insight.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Crystal Moon is run by me and my daughter-in-law, Lindsey. We specialize in handmade jewelry, crystals, gemstones, spiritual supplies, herbs and oddities. We also offer a place for local artists to display their crafts, who only have a social media platform. Painters, sketch artists, oddity artist Michelle McCarver from Pretty Dead Things, we have handmade soaps/candles, handmade runes and even other jewelers. Everyone is unique in their own style and it fits.

When you walk into our shop you immediately feel the positive energies and vibrations. It’s a wonderfully unique experience for our community. We filled a need and we’re proud we were able to do that. Overall, though, I feel like we specialize in love and acceptance and that’s what sets us apart.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Hopefully, our community will open up more to “freedom of religion” and people won’t have to hide who they are anymore. Bitterness and anger can be put to rest.
