Today we’d like to introduce you to Shahla Shahmiri.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shahla. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My grandmother was famous for her vast knowledge and often spoke of the healing power which could be harnessed through certain herbs and spices. I learned how to cook from a very early age, and every word of advice from my dear grandmother became the most precious gift. Later in life, when I became a refugee after being forced to leave my country, I realized that what my Nana had taught me was only the tip of the iceberg compared to what the women in the refugee camp knew and eventually shared with me. It didn’t matter where we came from. When we talked about the healing power of nature and how we could help our bodies through the right diet, we were all speaking the same language.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I love my restaurant Saffron Girl with all of my heart. Unfortunately, Saffron Girl is currently experiencing the biggest challenge to its survival yet. Right now, everyone is dealing with the pandemic and Saffron Girl has started receiving less and less orders. People are spending more money on cheap, fast food and less money on healthy food. However, my goal is to educate people that eating healthy can be affordable and that it should never break the budget. I also want people to know that you don’t have to sacrifice to be healthy. Saffron Girl offers delicious, healthy pizzas, healthy cakes and more!
Saffron Girl – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Saffron Girl is a labor of love. It is a place where each and every customer who walks through the door is greeted with warm smile, offered the best service and served the healthiest food! I am proud of my business. It brings such joy to my heart when I see a customer coming back or whenever I hear about how my food has helped someone’s life.
Just the other day, a beloved patron told me, “By the way Chef, since I’ve been drinking this tea, I sleep much better and my digestive system is working better too. Thank you!”
Comments like these keep me going, and I am sure that in the near future, more and more people will know about us. People will realize that the only solution to our health is to listen to our body more and to realize that nature is, and always has been, our greatest nurturer.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
From the time I was just a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of the day I could open my own shop, a place where I could teach people what I’ve learned throughout my life journey. There are thousands of years of philosophy behind healing through nature, and it is my mission and my biggest dream to be able to help others with this knowledge. I used to ask my grandmother, “Nana, how can I teach people what you are teaching me?” And she always replied with a smile and said, “One person at the time, child.” So, now that is exactly what I’m doing, one customer at a time!
