Meet Big Boss Dre of Blessed Gang Records in South Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Big Boss Dre.

So, before we jump into specific questions about your music, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started rapping for my uncle when he was in jail, serving a 20-year sentence when I was seven years old. I started a group at 12 called “613 gangs” it was originally just a rap group with me and a few other friends. It eventually turned into a family. My Brother Donnie and I started recording over the phone at 13.

Which eventually led to us going to the real studio. At 16 we had a song called “Big Money,” which was pretty big for us we started getting booked. Then we eventually stopped rapping together, but I was still recording. After “Big Money” I didn’t drop any music for three years I wanted to perfect my craft and come out with a new name.

At 18, I came up with the name Big Boss Dre cause that fitted my character and was super different than “King Dre.” The intro “BULLLLLYYY BIG BOSS DRE THE BIGGEST BOSS” came from me just playing around I eventually liked it and ran with it. At 19, My best friend “Donnie Money” got killed in front of me and I shot the person that killed him in self-defense. It gave me the energy to go harder and to actually drop.

Channel 5 Jdub had ended up reached out to me. To work on music, which gave me a bigger buzz. Tommy 2 discovered me through K.Trill at 16. They gave me the game and I just was sitting back brainstorming.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It haven’t been smooth at all. I done all my music deleted behind copyrights. My best friend got killed in front of me. I had to leave Fort Worth for at least six months, which put me behind.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Blessed Gang Records, I just play my part as far as keeping everything in order and push the brand. I am the CEO but it’s other of us like Kenn 613, Sticky the menace, Dewop, etc. that rap. I’m just trying to kick the door in for everyone around me. Blessed Gang Records is different because we are all different. We like tree. You know how a tree has branches but each branch has its own thing of leaves. That’s how each one of us is.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I probably wouldn’t start life over who’s to say it’ll be the same? I love my life through good, bad and ugly. The struggle and the mess-ups made me who I am today, and I wouldn’t change that for no one.
