Today we’d like to introduce you to Karry Parran.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Growing up in Saint Louis, MO, I was always selling things from candy to jewelry. By the time I was in high school, I had my jewelry being sold in a local store. I entered into a local entrepreneurship class and learned about running a business and sold my jewelry at the business fair and walked away with $500 plus winning best business plan. I attended college at Stephens College in Columbia, MO and was a fashion major for three years and then later changed to business, earning a bachelor of business and marketing degree. After college, I thought I wanted to only work a corporate job; however, I realized that it wasn’t for me.
I started my own YouTube channel during the natural hair movement and began doing protective styles and then later went on to learn about makeup. I taught myself how to do makeup from looking at YouTube and then went on to work for Sephora as a makeup artist and also freelancing. After moving to Dallas, TX in 2017, I knew that I eventually wanted to go into entrepreneurship full time and began taking classes to further my knowledge. In 2020, I became a lifestyle influencer and began furthering my entrepreneurial journey by launching my blog www.karryparran.com and will be launching my first online makeup class for everyday women who either does not know how to wear makeup or just wants a natural makeup application.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is smoother now, however I did have some struggles. I lost my mother to lung cancer back in 2016 and it was probably the hardest thing I have had to go through. I didn’t live at home in Saint Louis at the time so I rented a car once a month to go see her and make sure she was doing ok. I didn’t have much money so I had to put the rentals on my credit card. During this process, I was also trying to create my own makeup line but I struggled with finding a manufacturer and creating something I approved of.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a lifestyle blogger and influencer in Arlington, TX. I blog about fashion, makeup, skincare, home decor etc. I am also launching my first online makeup class. I am most proud of launching my blog and making the dreams I’ve had my reality. I think what sets me apart from others is being obedient to the things God tells me to do, even if I am afraid. It is not always easy to put programming, blogging, and product lines together, but because God gave this vision to me it must get done. A lot of makeup classes claim to teach a natural makeup application process, but I’ve noticed a lot of women don’t leave feeling like their complete, natural selves. What will set my makeup class apart from others is that I plan on teaching a true, natural finish makeup application. My clients and other women compliment me on how the looks I create make it appear like I have no makeup on.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
The YouVersion Bible App – I like to read the plans and look at the daily devotional in the mornings before I start my day. Kingdom Entrepreneur University – It’s a business course for entrepreneurs. I refer back to it often to listen to some of the modules I need to brush upon. I like to listen to instrumental Jazz music while working the corporate job it soothes me and helps my focus.
