Hi Tiera, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The name the Upcrown comes from two princesses who turned into two queens who become one to up each other’s crown! Upcrown Custom Designs was founded by a young couple aspiring to live a life full of adventures! New Year of 2020, Upcrown Custom Designs was merely a dream. After making our first few custom pieces, we turned it into a hobby. After our first sell, we realized it was a dream we never knew we had! We started studying YouTube videos, we read articles, we research any and everything related to the business and how we could expand it. We trademarked our name and logo.
We started researching tax exemption and what it means; we dove deep into making this a full-time job for us. We have a business phone, a website, a Facebook business page, and an Instagram page to make sure we’re connected with our customers at all times. Although we haven’t made it a full-time job, this business helped us get our own place, we have a home office, we’re learning how to Embroider, we’ve learned how to do our own business and thank you cards, we’re learning how to make our own thank you bags, and learning everything to be an all-around service for our current and future customers.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
NO! Lol, not smooth at all. There have been nights where I’ve cried and not just dropped a few tears. I boo hooed! This business can be up or down and we never know what to expect. We struggled a lot with pricing and making sure we were actually making a profit. We struggled with delivery and communication. We struggled with balancing our full-time jobs, our business, and our personal lives. We wasted money on things and materials we thought we needed. We struggled with getting orders and advertising our business. We struggled with trying to encourage family and friends to support our business. We struggled with just about any and everything. There were times we wanted to give up because we weren’t getting any orders. There were times when we were getting too many orders and it was overwhelming. There were times when we had to stop and really think about whether this business was right for us. Going through those struggles helped us today. There are still times when we go days, weeks, or even months with no orders, but we’ve learned to take that time to enhance our business so that we can be the best for our customers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Upcrown Designs?
Upcrown Designs is more than a custom T-Shirt company. Upcrown is a clothing line as well. We have hats, shirts, hoodies, sweats, drawstring backpacks, masks, and whatever else we can find to put our name on. Recently, we’ve gained notice for our Upcrown Dripping Crown sets; they’re pretty dope lol. We’ve made sweat sets, masks, and drawstring backpacks for our families and we absolutely love to see them in our brand. We’re most proud of our self-taught graphic designing; we’ve been designing a few of our own Upcrown designs, which is super exciting. I can honestly say we have pretty much-mastered layering vinyl; glitter vinyl, flock vinyl, and regular vinyl. Our goal is to make our customers feel and look amazing in our Upcrown apparel or any custom item made for them. We want everyone to know that Upcrown means a lot to us and when shopping with us, we stay in constant communication with our customers and we actually care about every single piece we make.
How do you think about happiness?
Our families, our fur babies, and each other! We love, love, love our families. We both come from big families and family get-togethers is one of our favorite things to do. We have four fur babies; a Standard French Poodle named Princeton, and three cats, Paris, Poppi, and Pepper. And lastly, each other! Jorie is my best friend as well as my Fiancee and we couldn’t be happier with everything God has blessed us with.
