Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Hill.
Jonathan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
This journey of being a photographer/creative has been extremely interesting for me. I started out with just my iPhone 6 of taking pictures of myself in which I created somewhat of a fashion/foodie blog page on Instagram. I would visit restaurants around the Dallas area and take pictures of their popular foods and post for traction of the blog. Unfortunately but also fortunately, in the midst of this part of the journey, I lost my 9-5 job which put me in a tough position, but with that very last check I got from my 9-5, I purchased my very first camera. At that moment, I had no choice but to give 1000% effort into my creative craft in which I call my 5-9.
At that point, I began to get out and shoot absolutely everything with my camera, trying to see and determine which kind of photographer I wanted to be. I started out shooting Maternity shoots for close friends, Graduation pictures, and just blog work for social media influencers around the Dallas area. It was most definitely a grind but I can say that part of the grind molded me into the style of photographer I am today.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not! I feel anytime your pursuing something your really want, you’ll forever have ups and downs with tons of bumps in the road… but with that you must never give up on your dream. In pursuit of this dream chase, I went through a lot in regards of trying to know the right time to make entrepreneurship my full-time thing. I was always on edge with this because with being an entrepreneur starting out, business isn’t always booming. The thought of jumping into a career where the money isn’t guaranteed would have anyone questioning that move. So I would say if anything, my struggles came more from a mental standpoint of just trusting the process, which is a continuous thing forever.
Please tell us more about your work. What else should we know?
At this very moment, my business is literally just myself as a creative photographer in which started January of 2018. I’m a photographer that’s open to connecting and building up upcoming models portfolios, working with brands and their projects, and fashion-forward style shoots. What I’m most proud of for my company is that I’m not put in a box for my work, I feel I can be booked for any style of shoot you’d like or looking for.
I’m also proud of not giving up on this journey and enjoy who I’m becoming. What I feel sets me apart from others is me myself as a creative… I’m not just the photographer that’s just good at taking pictures, I feel what makes me great is the insight I give to my clients of what’ll make their project dope. I take myself out of the picture and create for the client as if it was a project for myself. I’m open to different ideas on the set of an actual shoot which makes the shoots much easier.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like the most of Dallas, TX is the culture base. Everyone here will rep and show love and support for theirs. The skyline is absolutely unmatched, in the day or at night, it’s truly the best skyline I’ve ever seen. The food options they have so many, in all areas from the north to the south you’ll find what your looking for. Last but not least, I cannot forget the nightlife & Sunday Funday from brunch location, happy hour spots, day parties, etc. the best of the best.
