Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Powell.
Hi Justin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Milwaukee, WI and being an only child to my parents, they always challenged me to broaden my horizons, and early on, I knew there was more to life outside of where I grew up. As a young man, I had an eye for style and fashion. Not necessarily what was popular or trendy, but for the things that where clean, classic… timeless! I noticed that it was a little easier for me not only to put my outfits together but also the outfits of my friends whenever they asked. I’ve always appreciated the subtle details that tend to stand out, but more importantly, I knew that I was very resourceful and I loved helping others.
In 2003, after I graduated high school, I headed south, where I attended Philander Smith College in Little Rock, AR, graduating with a degree in Education. During my time at “PSC”, I immersed myself in the culture of a Historically Black College and further expanded on my love for fashion and altruism. For years I participated in tons of fashion shows and even hosted a couple, ultimately opening doors for modeling and even commercials. Still figuring out life, I obtained a Master’s degree in Public Administration and started my professional career with the American Red Cross, where I assisted with emergency assistance and disaster relief efforts. While it’s rewarding to help people through rough times in their lives, I now use my skill set through fashion and real estate to bring joyous moments in the lives of others. In 2013 I relocated to Dallas, TX. I’ve always loved this city! I currently reside in the Victory Park area, where I have been blessed to continue to perfect my craft as a Consultant for CVS Health, Stylist with Eaden Myles Clothing Company and as a Realtor with Rogers Healy and Associates. Whether you’re looking for what to wear for your next event, or you want to buy or sell a home, I’m your guy!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the words of rapper Rick Ross “I pray somebody tell you about these bumpy roads.” I’ve faced tons of challenges along the way. But the one that stands out to me most is when I left one job without another one to go to. Bittersweet moment: During layoffs, I was offered the opportunity to stay with my company, but I would’ve had to relocate to a small town in South Carolina, all while going through some personal hard times. Being that Dallas is where I call home and where I wanted to grow, I decided that I would decline the offer and resign. With prayer and perseverance, I landed a great opportunity with CVS Health as a Consultant less than three weeks later. I’m a firm believer that life isn’t about what happens to you, it’s about how you react to it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I provide fashion tips and advice on casual and business menswear to black-tie attire for gentlemen of all ages. As a licensed real estate agent, I work to find people their dream home! I specialize in designing custom and ready-to-wear tailored suits. I’ve always been the “go to” for what to wear, no matter if you’re going on a date or planning your wedding. I bring a unique sense of style that shines through when it comes to listing a house or taking my clients to tour their new home! My altruistic approach to real estate and fashion is what sets me apart.
What makes you happy?
Honestly, I love hearing other people’s good news! It’s nothing like a friend or colleague calling or messaging you if you’re not having the best day. Being able to share positive energy and experiences make relationships stronger.
