Today we’d like to introduce you to Beverly Adams.
Hi Beverly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up a daughter of a USAF serviceman, my family traveled throughout the United States and lived in Okinawa, Japan as well. While some may feel it is hard to move around to different cities, school and air bases, I found it thrilling. My parents taught us the value of accepting people from every walk of life and valuing the differences and commonalities we all have. My first volunteer job was as a teen working at the Family Services Center, assisting new families and welcoming them to the base. It was so rewarding to me to understand these new families and offer my help. During my time as a broadcast executive in Dallas, I received some advice from a cable network executive which would change my whole life’s focus: He said: “Your job is what you trade the days of your life for; therefore, your job has to have significant meaning to you.” This was a “a-ha” moment that ignited in me the idea that you do not have to sacrifice who you are or what you are passionate about to have a career. In my case, that means developing content that ignites in others a fire to give back and make a meaningful difference.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I believe that when you are contributing to the greater good, it can be very challenging. Giving is my gift, and nothing pleases me more in my heart and soul than to help those in need. When people think that there is an ulterior motive, it can be very discouraging. When you truly want to make the world a better place and leave a legacy of love, it can be confusing to some. However, when you truly believe in your cause, you always find the strength and inspiration to keep going!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Feeling a soulful calling to make the world a better place, by giving love and respect to everyone, I decided to create a television show to demonstrate how great it is to do that. My background in television compelled me to use that medium, along with social media to share light and love.
Once that directive was established, I contacted producers in Hollywood to see if it was feasible and an idea viewers would watch. They were in agreement and alignment with the idea and soon I found a sponsor to assist in a major revenue effort. We contacted a charity based in Santa Barbara, Ca. and our writers found a compelling story and turned it into a compelling unscripted reality series. The Chargers earned an award from the Parents Television Council based in LA.
What are your plans for the future?
Bringing The Changers to national viewers is my main focus at the moment. I am working with my team on plans to produce three more seasons of the show, as now more than ever we need compelling stories about how everyone can be a part of changing the world. I am so passionate about inspiring a movement of making impact, from a simple smile or compliment to a monetary donation, unexpected gift, or other random act of kindness. The gift is in the giving.
