Exploring Life & Business with Christie Milam of The Milam Consulting Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christie Milam.

Christie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story starts with a yearning desire of wanting to help people to become good financial stewards. I grew up, I guess you could say in a middle class home. My parents both worked and made “pretty good” money. I often wondered if they had things like savings accounts or college accounts for me and my sisters. They never said too much about either, and it turned out they didn’t have accounts for us. At some point, I found myself living with my Grandmother. She raised nine kids and even took very good care of her grandkids, all on one income, as a Public Health Investigator. I learned a lot from her. When she received her check, she would take me with her to the bank, cash her check, write out her tithe check and offering to her church, then pay her bills, and put money in her savings account. She never carried debt, other than one clothing store card. It remained at a zero balance. It seemed like she never ran out of money, despite one income, and taking care of people, including adult kids and grandkids.

She was someone I would consider a good steward. She managed her money well. As I continued living with her and developed a relationship with the Lord for myself, I realized that my Grandmother was teaching me to be a good steward as well. She taught me about opening a checking account, savings account, making sure I have life insurance, try not to carry any debt and most importantly, how to give. When it comes to giving, she made sure she taught me about tithing and giving an offering. The tithe is Holy, 10% of you first fruits. An offering is from the heart. So from around the age of about ten until now, I have made it a lifetime goal of being a good steward over my finances and for about 20 years now, helping other people be good stewards over theirs. Being financially secure is a goal that many people have but aren’t sure how to achieve it. That’s where Milam Consulting Group, LLC comes in. With simple, easy-to-follow steps, we help people reach their financial goals 1 step at a time. It’s what I absolutely enjoy doing and I know it is something God called me to do!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Honestly, between teaching full time, getting married, and raising three boys (our youngest is nine), owning two businesses and now full-time ministry, I would say I’ve had a few struggles, but nothing that has been a major setback. I would say one of the best feelings was by far getting our first client. I prayed about how that was supposed to happen and my prayers were answered then, as well as now. We do not have anything fancy, just simple plans to help people succeed at managing their money. My schedule stays pretty busy, but I am thankful for the gift of organization!
