Hi Keo, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love of hair started at a very young age. I began feeding my craft, my freshman year in high school by joining the cosmetology programs. I remained in the program all four years until graduating 2010. During that time, my grandmother and I had multiple conversations about me making wigs. I made a promise to her sometime before she passed away in 2012 that I would not only make wigs, but I’d be great at it. For a while, I was traveling hairstylist, but being a single mother of two, I felt we needed stability. I tried corporate jobs, but I’d always revert back to doing hair. As my kids grew older, I knew my passion but couldn’t find a balance. Meeting my Wife changed that. She gave me full support! Slayedbykeo was my brand and was already in the works. I truly started building my brand and making strides in the right direction! Unfortunately, I suffered a life-altering car accident in 2018, leaving me with a traumatic brain injury. I couldn’t do anything for weeks, nearly months.
During that time, everything came full circle for me after healing. I dived full throttle into wig making, taking classes to better myself, and spending long nights developing my wig collection! I achieved all that while still attending brain therapy five days a week, 6 hrs a day. I still pushed despite my circumstances and constant pain. In the spring of 2019, I made my first sale as a reestablished wig maker. In my earnings, I was able to also make my first big investment in myself and business. Working constantly and having perseverance has helped me grow professionally and personally. I still have a long road to recovery, but my passion and flame for hair remains forever ignited.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has not been a smooth road for me. I was in a car accident that left me with brain and spinal issues. Due to therapy and physical pain, I had a spinal fusion at the being of this year. I’ve been learning my new self with my traumatic brain injury. I am a lot different than I was before, but I can honestly say it’s all positive. These obstacles come and go, but my growth is continuous.

Started in entrepreneurship because I knew I wanted to be my own boss, I always had a passion for hair and wigs! While I learned more and grew in cosmetology, my grandmother started to battle with breast cancer. Throughout her treatments, we talked about me doing something with my life. My promise to her was to help others feel as beautiful as they looked while going through a very hard time, like chemotherapy or just life. I enjoy seeing their faces and how a simple wig can make them feel on top of the world.
