Life & Work with Keorah Strain

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keorah Strain.

Hi Keorah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started off at Texas Wesleyan in the costume shop designing and sewing clothes. Creating and drawing is something that has always been my passion. I always had a sketch pad on me because it was something my mentors in the shop encouraged us to have with us at all times. To keep our creative juices following. My fashion sketches and prints that I would draw on them eventually turned into art. I didn’t know that art actually sells until I moved to Las Vegas during the pandemic. There I was able to put my art up in the Arts Factory and sell every first Friday, which is their main event for artists.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No road to discovering who we are meant to be is ever smooth. I’ve been through phases where I wanted to give up. I had a lot of doubts about quitting. Fear is something else, if you let it, it’ll paralyze you.. I moved to Las Vegas during the pandemic, and I found myself and my true calling. It took me moving a thousand miles away from home for 11 months to really find my place and purpose. Not only that but to be truly comfortable living in that purpose.

I was around a group of artists who slept, breathed and ate their craft for breakfast. They were dedicated and it was definitely contagious. I found myself living in the Art District every weekend because it was so inspiring being around people who were not only dope artists/creative, but every single last one of them encouraged me to do my best and helped me be my best. They gave me tips on every show on how to sale, price and market my artwork. They lead me in the directions of opportunities and every artist there I met was so supportive. My art boo in crime is April. She really mentored me and helped me navigate in Las Vegas art district because I was very shy and clueless at first. She’s an artist herself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a visual artist. I paint all my crazy weird ideas on a canvas and sell them. Weird prints and designs are the niche in my paintings. I’m very colorful with every painting. I love the color. I haven’t seen or used a color I haven’t liked yet. I’m known for my artistic ability and being colorful.

Im very proud that I’m living in my purpose. And that my two daughters have been right by my side, experiencing me walking in my calling this whole entire journey. They’re at the forefront for sure. They’re at most of my art events. They’re on my videos talking, giving me constructive criticism on what colors to use and what to paint, lol.

I think the thing that sets me apart from others is, everybody can draw and paint, but I’m creative. I feel like there’s a difference between being an artist and being creative. I feel like my creativity is wild and very different. I don’t care I just go for it!! If I get crazy, I get crazy lol

What matters most to you? Why?
The thing that matters most to me is that my two daughters get to see me live and walk in my passion. I come from an environment where people work 9-5 jobs but have the potential and drive to be CEOs, but they never got past the potential part. I wanted my daughters to see me get past the potential part.

I’ve invested so much money, time, and energy into my craft, and though it was slow at first, I’m now seeing the fruits of my labor. My art is selling like finally selling because I launched it during the pandemic where there was little to no traffic at the Arts Factory in Las Vegas.

My daughters get to see it first hand. Every other weekend I’m at events showcasing my artwork and just putting myself out there. However, though Working a 9-5 isn’t bad because I’ve done it and have to to provide and invest into my craft but eventually, I want my own brand that brings in residual income. And just sell Art that people will love and cherish for a lifetime.

My prayer and hope is that one day they too will follow their own dreams without doubt, fear, and with FULL resilience because they’ve seen me do it.
