Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Namdar.
Hi Brad, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Dallas, raised in Plano, and was blessed to have the opportunity to play college football at Texas Tech, SMU, as well as, grew up playing club soccer and a member of the US National Youth Soccer Pool. Athletics taught me a lot in life, as well as got me to where I am today.
I earned my B.A. – in Journalism from SMU with a minor – philosophy (2012), as well as my M.A. – Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management, Executive Coaching Certification, and Mediation License (2014).
During that time, I also coached at St. Marks School of Texas, Cooper Fitness Center, US Youth Soccer, SMU Director of Operations, and started a social entrepreneurship called “Dream Big” at SMU which helped over 2,000 Dallas kids.
After earning my M.A., degree I had a variety of opportunities in athletics, but I wanted to teach and coach soccer (with the goal of becoming the US National Team Coach) so I became a public HS teacher to help kids & Varsity Soccer coach, then the following year, I became a Head Men’s and Women’s Junior College Soccer Coach.
During this time, a unique opportunity to start a candle and decor company presented itself and with no loans, private equity, investors, or SBA loans, I took a leap of faith and jumped into the world of International Trade and Commerce in the world of Home and Commercial Design.
This is how my story started…but my journey ahead will be much more exciting.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I can say with full confidence that I have had struggles along my “journey,” however, I am beyond thankful for them because, if I had to pick between living a life of nothing but smooth sails and not a trouble in the world, or a life of overcoming struggles, bumps along the way and facing adversity “eye to eye,”; I would pick the life where you experience overcoming adversity, struggles, and bumps along the way. Thats what builds character, life experiences and prepares you for the unexpected.
It’s human/normal to know what it’s like to fall down and get back up… its part of life and builds character.
I have seen adversity in many ways placed on other people to bumps that I had have to overcome, in many different ways; from unnecessary bureaucracy, frivolous litigation, battling with international trade and commerce global competitors, too many others, these battles/ moments of adversity I’ve seen has forced, and made me become more innovative, experienced, and prepared for the future journey ahead.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am the proud owner of a Luxury Home Decor Candle Company called Namdar Decor which I created myself (as making candles was a secret hobby of mine), and made it from my kitchen to Neimans in three years.
I also own an Art Company called The House of Namdar, which has done art shows, exhibits, and installations, all over the country including being the official Art House for Grand Prix USA – Formula One, as well as, represent, exhibited, and participated in some of the finest art events in the country.
Besides owning the House of Namdar and Namdar Decor, I am most proud of the many young start-up company’s I have helped along the way. Regardless, if it was giving advice, helping young people start an LLC, I did all this for free because we all need guidance sometimes. Seeing those people succeed, I am very proud of.
I also was appointed by Governor Abbott to the One Star Foundation to help allocate funding to non-profits, was asked to serve on the Public Policy and Advocacy Committee to the OSF, Partnered with the Texas Secretary of State – Texas Businesses Against Trafficking Initiative, selected to be a member of the US Chamber of Commerce – Small Business Advisory Council, and the US Chamber of Commerce – Eradicate Human Trafficking Task Force.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yes, many things. We are entering into a new economy of a digital age, we have to also be aware of the importance of mental health, personal health, and coming together as a people.
