Hi Phiana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began in 2018 when I discovered that I was pregnant with my second child. During my 20 week checkup, the doctor informed me that I had severe pregnancy complications and that it was a matter of time before I miscarried. Within seconds I was consumed with fear, confusion, sorrow, and disbelief. I had never imagined that I would be experiencing a loss of a child this way. But I couldn’t sit and wait to miscarry, that was even more terrifying. I needed a second opinion, someone whose answer would be different. And behold after much prayer, numerous doctor visits and modified bed rest, GOD covered me. I miraculously managed to make it to 25 weeks and a day. On July 10, 2018, despite the challenges, projected diagnosis, and countless sabotages; I gave birth to my miracle premie via emergency csection. Little did I know that this was only the beginning. I had not yet prepared for the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual strain that this tumultuous rollercoaster would cause. My family and I spent every day for four months in the nicu and each day became harder than the first.
Even though I had the support of my family doing this journey, I felt alone. I was submerged in my thoughts, drowning in my emotions and strained in my faith. Simply put, I was severely depressed. Yet, I still had to be a mother to my two years old, a wife to my husband and a loyal employee to my employer. All the while making life-altering decisions for my newborn. In the midst of it all, I needed a safe space, I needed momMY TIME. A place where I could regroup, decompress and take time for me. During my momMY TIME self-care journey, I discovered that candles transformed my thoughts, emotions and physical well-being. I felt better holistically after every burn. Each aroma pairing stimulated my brain in a different way, and after a while I was able to tailor each scent for my emotional need. This ignited my love for candles! For two years, I began to research and uncover ways that I could share this experience with others. Out of my findings, I established momMY TIME candle co, LLC. A brand that aids in creating an uplifting and stress-free self-care environment, allowing each individual to reinvent their personal self-care journey with each scent selection.
As for future plans? It’s our goal to build a community of women and establish partnerships with organizations to give back, support and inspire not only mothers but women during their most challenging times.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With every new beginning, the road is always a bit bumpy. It’s to be expected because one is consistently learning, growing and making adjustments along the way. However, through it all, we have been blessed even through the pandemic to be able to impact, inspire and encourage women through our mission. If any obstacles should arise, we tackle them head on because this is not just a business for us. I truly believe it’s our purpose!
