Today we’d like to introduce you to Shana Stewart.
Hi Shana , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my journey in Salon Ownership due to working in salon settings that the environment did not match the experience I wanted to give my clients. There’s this stigma that most salons have and I wanted to avoid that atmosphere by creating a more chilled yet down-to-earth place that clients could come to have relief from everyday stress.
As a stylist, I remember working at salons that didn’t have my best interest at heart and I knew that was a stressor for me. So, I created exactly what I saw fit for everyday working women. Surviving my childhood trauma, showed me what dysfunction looked like and I vowed that if God blessed me with a salon. I would change the outlook on what was to what is. Creating an inviting, fun, and detoxing atmosphere.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting this journey has been amazing. The only issue is, when trying to create a peaceful atmosphere it is hard to find the right people to fit the mold of your vision. Finding individuals are easy, but do they fit the mold is the question. I don’t want just anyone behind my chairs. I want integrity, honesty, and an inviting stylist that strives on teamwork.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

My proudest moment in becoming a salon owner was, never letting trying situations stop me from getting to where I am today. It was tough, but I kept my eye on the prize and my dream became a reality. I kept my faith and God present in all my decisions and I am thankful for every moment.
What were you like growing up?
As a teen, I was very strong! I came from a traumatizing dysfunctional background. Where I had to be the mother figure a lot. My mother had 6 children, which we all lived in separate homes. As an infant, my aunt took guardianship over me until the age of 4 years old. Giving me and another one of my siblings back to my mom in hope of her becoming the mother we needed.
My mom never stuck to the plan, which caused me to be the adult in the household. Everything fell on me! It became unbearable, getting put out and living in my car or sleeping on the floors at relatives’ homes. I used hair as an escape to peace. The funny thing is, I ran from being a cosmetologist because I did not want to turn my hobby into a career.
I was afraid of getting burned out that it took years for me to accept this was my career path. But, I wouldn’t change anything I’ve been through for the world. It made me into this strong-minded, career-driven, go-getter. I am very wise for my age and I know exactly what I want. I am not lost! I have healed from past trauma and look to helping other women that have experienced similar backgrounds as I have, to achieve their goals as successful business owners.
