Today we’d like to introduce you to Farah Janjua.
Farah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been doing professional photography for twenty five years and my passion has led me to several international destinations and also allowed me to land many exhibitions and publications in various Galleries and Magazine, both nationally and abroad. My work is diverse because I am an ardent traveler and love to learn about different cultures and their unique characteristics. I appreciate the colorful world that we live in and truly feel like we can also learn something from each other. I picked up a camera very early on in life and haven’t put it down since. I realized that photography gives me the ability to express myself like nothing else does. It’s a tool that helps pave the path for my inner world into the outside world and vice versa. Besides traveling and exploring the world, I have always felt a sense of responsibility to use my passion for creating a better understanding not only between peoples of different backgrounds and cultures, but also as a means to work toward the betterment of humanity by focusing on the countless social and humanitarian issues around the globe. It was due to this desire that I was lucky to be hired by different humanitarian and news organizations like The United Nations, Save The Children, Seventeen Magazine etc. to cover stories for them. But after I became a Mom, I realized that I had to find a way to continue pursuing my passion as a photographer where I could fulfill my dream as a travel and humanitarian photographer but also not compromise quality time with my family. So, after a few months of serious thought and encouragement from family and friends, I established Farah-J Photography, a family photography business which finds joy in memorizing special moments and milestones in people’s lives. It has been pure joy working with so many wonderful families and preserving so many memories for them! It’s also succeeded in giving me a good balance so far between my professional and family life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a pretty smooth road overall with a few challenges along the way! Since Farah-J Photography is a relatively new business, the only challenge has been building a solid clientele. However, that is something I expected being in this field long enough, so it hasn’t deterred me in any way. There is a huge saturation of Family Photographers these days so it can be hard for experienced photographers who are starting off a new business to build a clientele and price model which reflects their expertise and work history. But that is where the hard work comes in and I take it as a positive challenge rather than a negative one because it keeps me wanting to do better and not be complacent. I love all the families I work with and truly want them to have the best results so the challenges are worth it!
Also, even though some photographers with similar years of experience would charge higher rates, I made sure that I keep the prices fairly affordable at the same time not compromising on the service and provide the clients with a comfortable experience and quality results. To me, the satisfaction of my clients takes precedence over everything else.
Farah-J Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Farah-J Photography specializes in Family, Children, Senior and Maternity shoots. I think what sets my work apart from some of the other photographers is the fact that I love to keep the pictures as natural and real as possible and that I build a bond with my clients which goes beyond just a business service and transaction. I am proud of the relationship I have built with all the families I have worked with. I love them all and feel an immense sense of gratitude that I am able to preserve memories for them that they will cherish forever!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Speaking strictly about Farah-J Photography, I would say the proudest moment has been when my clients have actually cried with happiness over the pictures I have taken for their families. It’s been the most rewarding feeling for me because the whole idea behind my work is to give happiness and beautiful memories to them.
