Today we’d like to introduce you to NaTasha Peck.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
To be honest, Toshpointfro was created with the sole intention of conquering my fear of judgment. I used my platform as a way to express myself creatively in hopes of attracting a female tribe that could relate to not only my appetite, but also the issues women face in our everyday lives such as self-confidence, anxiety, and relationships. I was one of those young ladies that felt lost in the expectations others of others, and what I (naively) thought my life could be. I was living in a cage, and in 2017 I decided that Toshpointfro was how I would break free and begin creating my dream life!
Deciding how to break free was difficult, so to not overcomplicate things I settled on Natural Hair Care for women of color. It was a great plan until I realized I was shaking and sweating bullets on camera haha. It was nerve-wracking.
I talked to my girlfriend, Hannah, about how I was doing and she made a life-changing suggestion. She said “Why don’t you just do Mukbang?”… Mukbang? What is that?? I had no idea Mukbang even existed but after a quick YouTube search, I quickly realized that having a Mukbang, or Korean Eating Broadcast Channel, would not only be fun but could give me a space to enjoy myself comfortably while engaging with the audience over the one things that bring all people together…food!
With that, I just started. I made videos and posted them not caring too much about quality or engagement. Ultimately my goal was to just keep moving forward and as I did so everything continued to grow. Blind faith led me, and blind faith delivered. I began slowly growing an audience and our connections to one another only strengthened over time. I looked up after a month of putting up content and had 5000 subscribers on YouTube. It excited me so much that I kept moving forward, learning what I could as I continued to grow and build my confidence in my craft. Now, 4 Years later I have accumulated over 1.8 million supporters who not only love food but love the food experiences we share together.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success is always full of hardship, especially if you are trying something completely new to you. I struggled in every area you can think of and had to teach myself (with the help of YouTube) how to record, edit, engage with my audience properly, and most importantly manage my time. It was a lot of work, which is something many content creators don’t show our audience, but managing my career is a skill set I continue to grow daily and I don’t think I will ever feel like I have it completely mastered.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have the best job in the world! I eat for a living! My entire platform is centered around the lifestyle aspects of food. My goal is to teach people about exciting new and traditional flavor profiles that they may not have experienced yet. Trying new things should be fun and adventurous, not scary!
Inspiring people to get out of their comfort zone and try something makes me feel like I’m working in my purpose. I feel like bubbly personality gets my audience excited about food and life in general.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Ambition has heavily influenced me for as long as I can remember. My dad has always been ambitious and I’m sure it rubbed off on me. Growing up, the recording on our answering machine always ended with “and remember, THINK BIG, it’s the only way to think!” That always has stuck in the back of my mind. Always think big. Always move forward.
