Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Shipp-Cooper.
Hi Monique, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been creative but interesting enough I didn’t set out to start a business when I initially started. I was just a mom trying to help comfort her child that developed eczema and thru its many trials of finding something that worked and continued to work was so frustrating. It was disheartening idly sitting by and watching the decline of my daughter’s self-esteem and her physical discomfort as well as the financial aspect of this skin condition. I started researching and studying endlessly, natural remedies to overcome eczema and its many challenges. My recipes are a combination of my grandmother’s recipes along with some tips and tricks I learned in reading articles and watching video while researching natural remedies for eczema. I made my first product neem cream which is a blemish control cream that help soothe and calm itching, it also help dissipate the red patches of rashes. The results were so astonishing my daughter started feeling better and becoming more socially active that friends and family start to notice and began asking what we were doing different and or using. I started sharing creams that I made as gifts then shortly after, requests began to come to from friends, & family asking to help with issues they were experiencing. I actually had been making creams and scrubs for years, it wasn’t until I continued a cycle of working jobs feeling unfulfilled. It became harder and harder to concentrate as creating is my first love, once we were faced with the pandemic, working from home “in Corporate America, I knew rather quickly I needed to make a change for my mental health, and well-being of my family. After speaking with my family, we collectively decided it was time I do what I was so passionate about. I now work full-time in my business and I love it with its many challenges and learning curves. I love being able to educate my community about the importance of using natural and organic source products that free from chemicals and parabens.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve faced many inward struggles. What I mean by that is, after working for many years for someone else, I felt like every moment needed to be filled with an action. I learned early on, I head to spearhead everything there were no processes, they were no systems, or anyone to tell what needed to be done and when.
I learned to set S>M>A>R>T GOALS: (specific, measurable, attainable, reasonable, and timely.) even though I set goals for myself, doesn’t mean it was any less challenging. Its constant research, if you do not have the funding to outsource
