Meet Alejandro Luján

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Luján.

Hi Alejandro, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
It all started when I was 15. I was born and raised in a small town in Mexico. When I finished middle school I had the best opportunity in my life, to study abroad in Texas. Without a doubt, I said yes and that’s when everything started. All I ever wanted was to see the world and that was the first step. That was the first time that I traveled out of my country. I stayed there for 2 years and then I returned to Mexico to keep studying. I just wanted to know what else the world had to offer. I started college studying civil engineering and in the beginning of my freshman year, my university gave me the chance to study in Canada to complete some credits there. It was amazing, and a huge change, most of it because of the difference in the weather, but an amazing experience as well. And in my senior year, I took a great decision, to study in Croatia. It was a big challenge for me because it was so far away from home. I thought to myself what was I doing, I didn’t know the language, the culture or anyone or anything about it, but I encouraged myself to do it, even if I was afraid, I did it anyway and I think until this moment it was the best thing that I’ve done in my life. I met tons of people from all around the world. I traveled 21 countries there, sometimes alone sometimes with friends I made along the way, but I traveled as much as I could. That helped me a lot, to live in different country that makes you change your point of view about different things, about life and everything in general. I returned to my country with an open mind and with more ideas. I saw things around the world that I would like to try to do in my country. I did a master on valuation of real estate and now I started my own company, I invested in agave, the plant that the tequila is made of. And now I travel to cities like Dallas to see the architecture, and to learn how real state works in a first world country and try to implement in my own country. I saw the market of tequila there and I met some important people that would like to invest in this beverage. That’s not the end of my story, but that’s what’s been written at the moment. And now I live doing what I love the most, traveling, working in the real estate business, and making tequila.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
A challenge is never easy for anyone. The first problem that I had to face was the language barrier. I just knew the basic in English but I needed to improve myself if I wanted to communicate with all the people around the world. Until this day, I can’t consider myself a perfect English speaker, but I keep practicing on it. I learned German and a little bit of French so in the future I don’t want to lose a business opportunity because not knowing the language.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The main thing my company does is to evaluate real estate. A friend and I started this dream because we wanted to do it in a different way, trying to help the people so they can receive the actual value of the property. We go to the houses that people want to sell and we check the state of conservation, the quality of the construction, and the zone where was built and we give them closest value. Other service that we offer is to rebuild a house or apartment if the owners would like to increase the value of the property. We are compromised to always use the best quality in products, respecting the established time that we set, in the beginning, to deliver the property in excellent condition and do it the best we can. The attention and warmth with our clients is what distinguishes us from others. Looking at the face of our clients when they do the sell and receive the money they deserve is what makes us proud.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?

What has made me more useful is being friendly. I have met a lot of influential people that ended up being my friends or partners in a new business. Try to find someone with a lot of experience in your field that you´d like to work with and learn as much as you can from them. For me, I found a good mentor in the moment that I finished college and he taught me how to enter in real estate business. I was working with him until I feel ready do it on my own. The best thing that you can do is follow your dreams, and you need to know that you may fail, but you need to get right back up again. You will face a lot of challenges being freelancer but you need to stand up for yourself because that will make you wiser and you will learn from your mistakes, so you won’t repeat them.
