Hidden Gems: Meet New Leaf Wellness Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to New Leaf Wellness Center. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Collectively, we are New Leaf Wellness Center in McKinney, Texas. We are four Black women chiropractors, who met and formed our business while still in Chiropractic school. Our names are Dr. Courtney Arnold from Valdosta, Ga, Dr. Christian Cade from Tuscaloosa, Al, Dr. Monique Harris from Milwaukee, WI, and Dr. LaKira Harrison from Atlanta, GA. We realized the impact the four of us could have in our community and from day, our focus has been women’s health and delivering quality and affordable services. We moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in hopes to find an open and accepting community, who would love our fresh approach, mission, and skills. We started New Leaf Wellness Center in a small space, with no business loans or outside help. It has been through networking and forming community relationships to get to where we are today. Our mission was to create a space for women and families to cultivate healthy, happy lives. Keeping our overhead low and impact big, was key. Our goal is that each client leaves our office empowered, with a better understanding of body function and optimal health by setting attainable health goals. New Leaf Wellness Center not only serves the community with chiropractic care but also offers fire-cupping therapy, Yoni (vaginal) steaming, nutritional counseling, birth doula services, and childbirth education. We have now expanded our presence in McKinney and across the metroplex, almost tripling our space, we are able to still keep overhead low, reach higher, and spend more time with each person who walks through our doors.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not always been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship teaches you the struggles of wearing multiple hats in business. We do not have front office help, so we handle everything on our own, from marketing, business planning, sales, phones, and emails. We are lucky to have figured out a system that works for us. We also struggled with client retention through the pandemic, as most service-based businesses did.

We’ve been impressed with New Leaf Wellness Center, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’d like our community to know that Chiropractic is more than cracks and pops and that health is more than looking good and feeling good. Being healthy is being proactive about your well-being, mentally physically, and spiritually. Chiropractic is about your body functioning at its peak. Interferences in the function of our bodies, not only happen with physical traumas but also your thoughts, environment, and toxins that settle in and around us.

We also think every BODY deserves chiropractic care, whether they’re low-income or service industry employees. We established a non-profit/501(c)3 under the name of We Care Chiropractic. This program is income based and those who think they may qualify; we encourage to fill out an eligibility form and pay for care using a sliding scale.

Brand wise, we are most proud of being able to reach platforms we never imagined we would have, like meeting The TS Madison and providing her and her team with A-steams, having a huge influx of our handmade Yoni soap orders through Mrs. Tabitha Brown “Real Good Mondays” and even being exposed through local social media and YouTube influencers.

What sets us apart is we are a practice of four Black women, approachable and down to earth. We hear from our clients all the time that they’re able to come in, feel welcome and connect with us on levels deeper than the services we provide.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Some of our favorite books are The E Myth by Michael Gerber, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, Health is Simple Disease is Complicated by Dr. James Forleo, and heal your body by Louise Hay.

Apps like Jane App and Square help us keep track of our schedules, daily tasks, record, and bookkeeping in the palm of our hands. And we cannot thank Google Voice enough! As stated above, we don’t have a front office, so being able to connect our business line to our cell phones has been a Godsend.
