Hi Yo Dj Star, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Well for starters, I never thought about being a DJ until I got into making TikTok videos. I needed some good content so I thought I would just play around with my DJ controller. The very first video I uploaded did very well. Some guy inboxed me asking how much do I charge to DJ a party and that’s when my wheels started spinning. I immediately got on YouTube and was watching tutorials on how to do this and that when it came to DJing. I only had a week before my first gig! I also went into guitar center and spent a lot of money on brand new equipment such as speakers and mics and cables/cords. Safe to say my first gig was amazing. I don’t know if it was more of the crowd’s reaction or just the fact that at that very moment, I realized this is what I should’ve been doing this whole time. Word of mouth got around from that event and I’ve been DJing ever since. Surprise parties, pop-up shops, and anything in between. I feel as if this is what I was meant to do and I’m glad I finally discovered my passion!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, the only struggle I feel like I’ve endured was having to haul/setup my heavy equipment and just knowing what wires go where when I’m dealing with other venues setups. Other than that, it’s been going pretty smooth for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m also a content creator, I love YouTube and vlogging. I’m going to get back I to YouTube but for now DJing takes up so much of my time! I’m known for being multitalented and just picking up different skills such as photographer, videographer, content creator, artist, model & now DJ! I feel as if my personality and just my will to win sets me apart from everyone else. I never give up. Even if it takes me a minute, I’ll still get it done.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I possess one of the best qualities in my field which is being a people’s person/crowd pleasure. You have to be able to read and interact with the crowd. Knowing exactly what they want to hear at the right time is the most important thing when it comes to DJing!
