Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Rodriguez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Alex. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am the second generation of this florist. My parents Alejandro and Rosario Rodriguez started the business in 1996. I took over about 3 years ago. I was an operations director for a large auto group(s) for over 25 years and taking over the family business was always the plan. The time came when my parents were ready to retire and I stepped in ready for the task. My parents didn’t really understand today’s generation, i.e. social media, e-commerce, etc, but they had the perfect recipe for success with great service and awesome products that really separated us from the competition. They just relied on word of mouth and referrals, up until I took over and brought today’s market strategy and advertising into the layout. We have considerably grown as a business and still have lots of exciting opportunities in the future. We are now planning to open our second location using the same recipe my parents instilled in this business years ago. Only difference, more customers are getting to experience the level of talent, product, and services we provide, thus the growth. Who knows what the future brings, but we are heading for excited times here at I Love Roses Florist!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have had several challenges, especially when dealing with family and different generations. Like many people, we do not like change. So when I was bringing in new ways to advertise and market, my parents could not grasp the concept. If it was working fine for over 20 years, why change it. To their credit, they allowed change and great things are beginning to happen for our business. We still have man difficult challenges ahead of us, but with the foundation my parents have instilled to this business, we will overcome any future challenges and obstacles we may face in the future.
I Love Roses Florist – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We have been in business for over 22 years (Jan.2018) and our recipe for success lies in our quality and service. There is a lot that goes into both, however, most do the minimum. For starters, we photograph our own online pictures so when you place an online order, you actually receive what the arrangement looks like on our website. Most florist in Dallas do not have this capabilities. Most join an online floral company and use the cookie-cutter photos the company provides them and try to match the product see on the website.
Second, we carefully hand-select and pay more for our flowers because we want the best for our customers.
Last, we have top notch designers who have been with us between 15-22 years and have created a specific style to all of our arrangements. We deliver the “WOW” factor and our online reviews, social media followers, and repeat customers are a demonstration of the experience we deliver on a consistent basis.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment for me is the sacrifice my family has made when I took over the business. They sacrifice so much for us to succeed both with my parents and family at home. They have been very supportive and we could not achieve what we have without their support.
