Daily Inspiration: Meet Jen Tran

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Tran.

Hi Jen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am a 21-year-old living a life that I’ve always wanted for myself. I grew up all over the country. From Virginia to California and a couple places in between, I grew up experiencing and embracing different cultures and lifestyles. From a very young age, I was introduced to sports; and quickly found my passion for fitness and outdoor activities. Through watching and playing sports, it instilled in me a sense of pride, discipline, and perseverance. Having immigrant parents showed me that even the hardest goals can be achieved with hard work and a “never quit” mentality. These traits have only helped me succeed and excel. Now I am a soldier in the United States Army. Having a job in field artillery, I am held to the highest standard by myself and my peers; because I am an American soldier, fighting for something greater than myself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been an easy ride. Because I moved around so much as a kid, it was hard having to always start over. Almost every 2 years, I’d be in a new school, with new people and a new environment to get accustomed to. Not only was I getting relocated so frequently growing up, there also many sport-related injuries that I had to bounce back from.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a soldier in the United States Army, assigned to an artillery-heavy rockey unit. My job is field artillery as a fire control specialist. We send out fire missions so that the launchers can send rockets downrange. One thing that sets me apart from others is how much I’ve achieved in such a short amount of time. In my first 3 months at my first duty station, I earned 2 Army Achievement Medals, won 2 boards, and earned a promotion waiver. I’m proud of the discipline and hard work that I display on a daily basis. I am constantly striving to be the best version of myself and set an example for others. I’m known for my confidence and always taking initiative to be a leader.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is waking up every day and striving to be the best you can be, despite any obstacle that gets in the way. It’s not always easy, but what matters most is that you never quit.
