Today we’d like to introduce you to Alonia Thompson.
Alonia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
So just to give a quick back story – Originally, I am from Barstow, California & born in Las Vegas. I have always had an eye for fashion since a little girl watching my mom get dressed and seeing how glam my grandma used to be back in the day. As I grew older into my teenage years My mother and I agreed on me moving to Buffalo, NY where my father and his family reside, and for me to complete high school. Barstow is a very small town and I knew at a young age I needed to be somewhere with more opportunities for me to grow as an adult.
I got started with showcasing my sense in fashion throughout high school and college. I took it upon myself to not only start my own Fashion and Lifestyle blog but to also create my own YouTube channel it took a while for me to grow because back in 2015 the idea of an influencer was still very lowkey and not as popular as it is now, creating my blog and YouTube channel opened doors for me to attend events in New York City like NYFW, Magazine Events, Beauty events, etc., I worked regular jobs but always made it a priority to continue doing what I love part-time. Fast-forward to Oct 2021 at the age of 23 I decided to make a huge change and move to Dallas, Tx I am a very ambitious and fearless person and I truly believe I get it from my dad.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not always been the smoothest road. Even with just getting started there were lots of bumps in the road and stagnant moments. I think one of my toughest struggles was moving from California to Buffalo, NY – away from my mom and grandma. In my eyes those two women are the most important people in my life and it’s always been us. so that was for sure a struggle although it was for better opportunities it was still hard. Honestly aside from that everything else I never looked at as a struggle because all obstacles that came my way were just ladders of challenges that I continued climbing just to get to where I need to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Yes! let’s get into it.
So, What I do is create content on both Instagram and YouTube. my niche would be in the category of Fashion & a lot of lifestyles. Fashion is what open the door for me to want to become a social media content creator. I love sharing outfits ideas, talking about what to wear in different seasons, how to build confidence in your wardrobe, where to shop, etc. So, when getting started I was specifically known for my fashion content but over the last year, I have tapped more into lifestyle. 3 years ago, I had the opportunity to work at an event for NYFW and that alone was something that I was extremely proud of plus I was only one year into blogging and social media so that was an exciting moment for me.
I think what separates me from others is my Consistency and style. I have always took pride in my sense of creativity and let alone my work ethic. People always ask me “how do you continue to stay so motivated and your not even at 10,000 followers yet” (yes people actually ask that) lol – But my response to them is always that its really not about who’s following you, What matters is your passion and consistency for doing what you love, the followers will come! that’s the easy part. followers don’t always get you there but your work ethic and consistency will.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is being recognized for the hard work I put in and just being in my element. I enjoy Shopping, Traveling, Creating Good Content, good fashion, and being in my own space. I’m actually a very happy person. I believe that we are the only ones in control of our mood and happiness so every day I look at my surroundings and how far I’ve gotten in life and it makes me happy. simple as that.
