Life & Work with Esmeralda Lopez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esmeralda Lopez.

Hi Esmeralda, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I can remember I’ve always been into fashion abs creating on others. I can clearly remember asking Santa for a suitcase full of makeup I had seen at Sam’s when I was little. I think my passion for makeup started by seeing my mother always get ready every weekend and seeing her spend hours perfecting her looks. I started doing makeup on my high school friends and family, honestly anyone who would trust me enough to create on them. This was back in 2010-2013. Then in 2014, I started an esthetician course wanting to expand my knowledge. In 2015 I was forced to get out of my comfort zone and actually take my makeup career seriously. It all started with word of mouth and being recommended by friends and family members. Instagram was poppin’ at that time and the beauty industry was hitting full force! It really has all come down to consistency and dedication. There’s been many bumps in the road but I’ve always managed to keep a positive outlook on things. I’m where I am today because I’ve learnt to believe in myself and my dreams more than anything in this world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It most definitely has not been easy. There’s been times where I’ve wanted to stop and just go back to a 9-5. And there’s nothing wrong with a 9-5 job. But I’ve never felt that was for me. And I’m just terrible at office jobs to begin with! Lol, I think about my two boys and how much it means to me to set an example for them, that anything is possible when you set your mind to it, and most importantly believe in yourself. I want more for them and myself. Every day is a struggle trying to balance my life at home with the kids and trying to build an empire for my family. But it has been the most rewarding thing I’ve done so far so here we are. ❤️

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a freelance makeup artist in the DFW area. I specialize in bridal and special occasion makeup services but I am trying to expand myself and dip my toes into all areas of makeup. I like to think that the possibilities are endless when you’re creating art! I am most proud of myself. I don’t know if that sounds a little bit egocentric but, I’ve gone through a lot all throughout my life and somehow, I’ve managed to pull through. If you would’ve told my 5-year-old self I would be making others feel beautiful through makeup I would’ve probably laughed. What sets me apart from others is my ability to listen but, actually listen! and understand with no judgment. People want to be listened to and need to feel understood and I try to do that with my clients. Apart from helping them feel their most beautiful I like to think I provide them with very good advice. ❤️

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The beauty industry is constantly changing! It’s really hard to know what will be the next big trend but I’m up for all of it! In the next 10 years, I see myself expanding my career and opening up my own makeup studio where I can provide makeup classes, have big bridal parties book, and have a fun space to get ready at. Like I said, the possibilities are endless!
