Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Cameron.
Hi Katie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
One of my favorite things to do is host. I’ve always loved having people over to eat, drink and share laughs. Prior to the pandemic, I would set up major charcuterie spreads for friends and family whenever I hosted. Starting a business came up multiple times in conversations but when everything shut down, I put the dream in my back pocket. When Dallas started opening up again, I felt it was a good time to take a leap of faith and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been in business for a little over a year now and have met so many incredible people, experienced such great moments, and get to help people host their own events by taking one thing off their plate – charcuterie!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been curve balls and learning experiences along the way that I’m sure many small businesses run into. At times, you think you’re making a great decision only to find out your business requires something completely different and you have to pivot. I like to call it growing pains. The important part is that you take the curveballs and learn from them so that your business can grow into all you want it to be.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Modern Graze. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business, The Modern Graze, specializes in all things charcuterie. Boards are my top sellers because I hand select boards that my customers get to keep for future use. I also do grazing tables and work with clients on custom orders as well – boxes, cups, cones, you name it! I am so proud of the community I’ve built. I have clients that continue to allow me be part of major celebratory events and I will be forever grateful for that.
What matters most to you?
Quality is extremely important to me. I carefully select all my boards from the perspective of ‘what would I want?’ If it’s not something I would want in my own home, I will not select it for my clients. I have the same mindset when mapping out and curating my boards. I will never give my clients something I wouldn’t want for myself. I think having that eye for detail is so incredibly important and it’s what my customers expect.
Pricing:
- Boards vary in pricing depending on size $85-$185
- Grazing tables start at $450 and are priced per person
- I’m always willing to work with clients on custom orders!
