Conversations with Antoinette Mayfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Antoinette Mayfield.

Hi Antoinette, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Vicksburg, MS. I wasn’t always an outgoing person with a big voice. Growing up I didn’t have friends! My parents, sister and grandmother were the only people I talked to. I was eight years old, in speech therapy with a stutter.

Fast forward a few years, and I blossomed into a very social person. In high school, I was on the basketball team, yearbook committee, crew member for school plays, and several clubs. After high school I was blessed with a basketball scholarship to Coahoma Community College where I played for two years and got the nickname A.M. I furthered my studies at The University Of Southern Mississippi and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Two months after graduating from Southern Miss, I loaded up my car and moved to Dallas, TX with no job just a plan. I slept on my cousin’s pull-out couch and gave myself one year to find my own apartment. Instead of one year, I did it in six months.

After landing my job, I met my mentor Candi KLynn (LaKatheryn Shaw). CaniKLynn invited me to be a guest on her podcast and the idea for No Frontin the Podcast was born. I started No Frontin The Podcast in 2020 with the guidance of CandiKlynn. Now I’m on my third season and the co-host of another podcast, Situationship Talk.

Creating my own podcasts has allowed me a chance to interview some talented, unique, intelligent, and driven individuals. No Frontin The Podcast gives my life purpose and an outlet.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

It hasn’t always been a smooth road. When I first started the podcast, deciding on a logo was my biggest struggle. I revised my logo about five times before I finally had the one. Now my main struggle is booking. Working around everyone’s busy schedule including my own can be tricky.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I run an interview-style podcast known for being funny yet raw and honest. I am most proud of myself for transitioning from just an audio podcast to visual with going live on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter. My approach and interview style sets me apart from other podcasters.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Support matters the most to me. Why? Support is the difference between a business failing or succeeding! Support your friends and family on their journey.
