Today we’d like to introduce you to Colton Buchanan.
Hi Colton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was raised by a family of entrepreneurs and always carried that gene. As a kid, I would purposefully dirty my room so that I could clean it to make money. After college, when this trick no longer worked, I found myself working in the corporate world, but knew I wanted my destiny to be in my own hands. With some research, I found Grass!365 and was immediately interested. I had previous experience in the landscaping world and knew it would be a great fit. I initially started it as a side business and as soon as things got steady (it didn’t take long!), I went full-time, channeling the entrepreneurial spirit that is in my blood. From day one of installing turf, I have loved bringing my customers’ visions to life. Each job, small or large, commercial or residential, is a new challenge that the team and I love taking on, from design to completion.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I currently have a fairly small crew, so I’d say our biggest obstacle at this point is keeping up with demand. Dallas-Fort Worth is such a large Metroplex that yields plenty of clients. My goal is to stay mindful of growing at an appropriate pace so that there is never a sacrifice to quality. My team and I are lucky to have this obstacle and are definitely up for the challenge. I see growth and many beautiful landscapes in our future!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, COVID-19 made us all realize the importance of our outdoor spaces and how important it is to keep them beautiful and functional so that we can enjoy them as often as possible.
It also taught us about the beauty of our franchise model, which is resilient. Our business grew during the pandemic when sadly many other franchise models failed. Being outdoors every day and coming up with solutions to make people’s lives better is a very fulfilling career.
